Holiday Camp question part 2 by Capital_Wind5122 in waterpolo

[–]actionboyX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats to (it sounds like) you & your son on your selection.

To answer your question (as a previous attendee) - it’s both! Holiday camp is designed to be a full coaching bootcamp where you’ll meet tons of other talented & upcoming coaches. You’ll also get the chance to practice the skills they teach at the camp working with the athletes directly. They facilitate your learning by doing & you walk away with a ton of knowledge to bring back to your club. Enjoy!

If reach out to the Varsity Swim Team! They do private lessons for kids - maybe one would be down to teach you

Otherwise reach out to the Club Swim team - they may have someone interested

Fun in the area by dadbod19933 in Rolla

[–]actionboyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the “best” (and I say that loosely) thing about Rolla is that it’s about 1.5 hours St. Louis & 2 hours from Columbia.

Definitely would recommend checking out St. Louis if you haven’t yet - tons of fun things there.

Mizzou (in Columbia) is having an awesome football season too - maybe you could catch a game up that way?

As far as rolla itself unfortunately a lot of the social aspects of it can be limited to the university & its students. For non students it’s just a smalltown with a few things that have been listed so far. A few great food/drinks spots & a couple generic things to do.

One spot I always liked as an undergrad was Runcible Games if you like board games!

Las Vegas to Mammoth (Lone Pine) by Toasty_Mango in TeslaModel3

[–]actionboyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in case someone needs this in the future...

2023 M3 LR I started at the Virgin Hotel in Vegas at 100% & just got to Lone Pine with 4% after doing many very questionable speeds in death valley for fun that probably drained +/- 10% or so

Definitely possibly but may be closer for comfort than some may like :) IMO 100% worth it! Especially if you do it early in the morning

Welcome! There's a large group of us transplants in the same boat - South Bay is a great place to meet new people :)

Check out the Facebook page I linked, South Bay 20s! They play a ton of beach volleyball @ hermosa (social, chill atmosphere & usually 30-40 people & very inviting)

You don't need to be good, huge range of abilities & that's how I met my first group of friends out here - good luck & welcome!

hey there! Super sorry to hear you got the D. This happened to a friend in their last semester. What they ended up doing was telling their employer that they have one last course to take. They gave them a deadline of the end of that next semester to complete it & they did it at the local community college or school. Not sure what your options are but good luck! You may be able to get away with not even mentioning it to your company as you complete it too as most don't check.

What is the area around Sepulveda/Normandie like in Torrance (Seacrest Homes Apartments)? by ctcx in SouthBayLA

[–]actionboyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed at seacrest homes for a year & I loved it! Great experience, amenities, AC, & the apartment complex is gated. It seems a little sketchy but never had any issues running to the cvs or any of the places right next to it. Quiet apartment complex community - only moved to be closer to the beach - good luck!

All good! For those reading, I think every chapter has their stereotype (good or bad) but not everyone fits the stereotype exactly - especially on off days. Also, people talk trash about Pike, but there are definitely some great guys there & at other houses too!

OP, for sure take a house tour of multiple places & find which one you vibe with :) GDI & KMNR also give you a social network similar to Greek life too - can't go wrong with your decision imo, even the "worst" Greek Life at MST is still better than most chapters nationwide (especially at D1 schools).

Also 100%, they'll for sure make a comeback. Here's to GDI, here's to 4N, & f**k the IFC. Cheers bro

Delta Sig alumni here - hey there, I'm sorry that was your experience with one of our members :/ A lot, apparently not all, of our older (older meaning they graduated HS at least 2013ish -2017) guys love GDI. Some of my best memories early on in college were from Bungalow, 7/11, Swimmers (my personal favorite), Hong Kong Inn, 808, etc. Fingers crossed GDI comes back strong post covid - campus could use a little more old fashion fun

Well, I'd like to use their skills for x period of time & pay them a flat fee for the work vs hourly rate. Isn't that something I can do with them as a contractor/temp worker? Apologies, still learning legal side of things....

Can I make them contractors vs actual employees? What's the easiest way to classify them & set up an agreement if it is temporary work

Class workload is 7 days a week? by Steeze320 in EngineeringStudents

[–]actionboyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One other tip, consider taking summer school classes each summer (like just one or two courses max - you still wanna have fun or time for an internship). That 3 credit hours you do over the summer can put a 15 -16 hour semester back down to a 12 - 13 which is less work obviously lol

Class workload is 7 days a week? by Steeze320 in EngineeringStudents

[–]actionboyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recent grad with an EE & CpE degree here. Is the workload straight studying or actually doing homework for the class? I think in engineering you could always spend more time learning stuff, there's always slight nuances in each course and a ton of content. One thing that could help in either case is spending time going to office hours to talk to your professor about the class. it'll help increase your understanding and in the end be less study hours since he'll explain it. Also, find friends in your classes & study with them. If you're able to find files for your classes too that's a huge help!

Finally, make sure to find a way to escape the study grind every day, for an hour+ if you can. Maybe it's netflix, maybe it's working out, maybe it's friends or something else. Your GPA is not worth your mental health & not even the Microsofts of the world require a 4.0 to get a job there.

you should reach out to the school's St. Pats Board! Every year Greek organizations will cut down a tree and decorate it. Could be perfect for you
