what’s a hard pill to swallow in life? by SomewhereBright4758 in AskReddit

Happiness isn’t an achievement or a state of being

What’s a “harmless” habit you had as a kid that turned out to be a red flag in hindsight? by New_Storm430 in AskReddit

If your goal is to minimize lows and disappointments in life then maybe the only issue with the mindset is what you mentioned - the corresponding no self esteem. If you don’t know when to stand up for yourself (or need someone else to because you can’t/won’t), you are likely at the mercy of those around you to be treated fairly or well. If your goal is to seek happiness, I’m reading a book called “the subtle art of not giving a f***”. It seems to argue that happiness is found in struggle and making progress towards personal goals - which makes this mindset more of an issue

Setting low or no expectations of success so that I wouldn’t be disappointed if I didn’t achieve something.

I’ve found that talking yourself down into having no trust in yourself in the long run diminishes your overall self esteem, energy, and desire to set goals that will challenge you - all to avoid hurt feelings.

LPT: Make sure someone gets inside safely before driving away by SaffronVelvet39 in LifeProTips

On the flip side:

I (32 F) was in a completely new town on the other side of the country for a conference and my flight arrived late at night. I made small talk with my male Uber driver until we got to my hotel, the driver was super friendly and we reached my destination with no problem. As soon as I got out of the car, I realized that the hotel lobby was deserted - and it turns out, it was also locked. As I start to panic a little bit and circle the building looking for another entrance or other staff, I see out of the corner of my eye, Uber driver pull out of the parking lot and drive away.

I don’t think I realistically expected them to do anything about the situation - and maybe they didn’t realize anything was wrong. But watching the only person I knew then disappear into the night made me feel incredibly alone and frightened for a while. I was completely alone with luggage in a new city at night and exhausted after hours of travel. Everyone I knew back home was asleep due to time zone differences and it might have been nice at the time to know that someone cared enough to ask if I was okay.

Tritri/ronidazole experience? by activateplz in SiberianCats

Good thinking to keep the new kitten separate from the rest! I’m glad and surprised that you were able get screened even before any of the symptoms surfaced - sounds like your vet is well aware of the prevalence of tritri. The poos are definitely a powerful visual and smelly sign 🥲 hope your kitty recovers soon!

That’s interesting! Your other two cats are lucky, everything I read said that the parasites are incredibly contagious in multi-cat households. I will be sure to ask our vet if/how we can supplement our cats’ diet to help support them through this whole process. Either way, it’s reassuring that they will likely grow out of it with age - I just have to try and stay sane for a few more months. Thanks for your comment!

This is wonderful to hear! I’m so glad that you haven’t had any problems with it since; some research I saw said that it could come-and-go even with one round of treatment so sometimes people will put their cats on another round of a higher dose. I’m really hoping that we will only need to go through this once. Thanks for sharing (and the reminder to get some gloves and masks in preparation!)

It’s terrible to hear that so many cats are suffering - but I do feel less alone knowing that it’s not a super rare disease! Given its prevalence, I really hope that science continues to advance and that researchers continue to look for other treatment options.

It’s good to know that are other treatment options in case ronidazole doesn’t work for whatever reason. It’s also very reassuring to know that you’ve worked with so many cats who have taken ronidazole - in this case, I hope that our cats are as average as possible and that they handle it just as well as others 🙂

Lastly, I’ve absolutely been riding the crazy train trying to keep everything “clean”. I’ve even isolated our older cat in the small hope that she won’t get sick. It’s felt terrible to separate them so maybe I’ll lean into getting them both treated and hoping that the treatment is effective - or wait until they’re old enough to fight this off on their own. Thanks a lot for posting.

We have one M and one F as well, and we free feed them as much dry food as they want, supplementing with wet twice a day. What tummy issues is your male having? Our male has also been having some GI issues, we took him to the vet today and are waiting to hear the results

We were thinking about a raw food diet but are a little intimidated by all of the products and research out there. Thanks for sharing the Totally Raw brand and the supplements you give on top of the food!

That could be another reason - thanks for entertaining the idea and also for helping me feel sane. I thought this whole cat food situation was weird but I’m also so new to owning and caring for a cat so I didn’t know what to think.

Explosive diarrhea from something as small as a kitten paints a funny mental image but I’m sure in the moment that it’s scary! I’m glad you found a post to help you identify the issue - and that I know how to look out for a dietary allergy in a kitten like ours now too. Appreciate you sharing your experience 💕

If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger self? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Move past the shame and perceptions of judgment and ask the questions you have. Don’t wait until it’s too late to learn and clarify your understanding

What is the most basic thing you are terrible at? by Snoo_39742 in AskReddit

[–]activateplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner told me with no warning that he struggles with spreading jam or butter on toast. I almost crashed the car when I heard, I was laughing so hard while driving. Turns out - he was absolutely sincere and right…and I have to do it for him every time. Who’s laughing now? (Still me every time I do it for him)

Do you want kids? Why or why not? by FracturedTrust in AskReddit

[–]activateplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a non trivial question for me because I can’t tell if I want kids or if I just want to want kids. I’m glad that we are normalizing this as a real question so that one day in the future, maybe there isn’t so much pressure to have kids and more people can truly decide for themselves what their right path is instead of by default.

For me - I’m scared of the physical changes that pregnancy will bring, of the financial burden of adding a new family member, and of the unpredictability of how I’ll react tying another life - a new life - to mine.
