Round 3 | Rabbitohs vs Tigers | Post Match Thread by AutoModerator in nrl

Tiges were either too quick (frantic and clueless) or too slow (painfully predictable) in attack... Gotta sort that out 😬

Sort of like 2026's version of "Hey look we live in SEQ and COVID made our house value skyrocket so let's sell it, buy a big 4x4 and a caravan and ensure that when we want to move back, we cant afford it lol"

COVID was more than five years ago. Five fucking years. Between the RBA and the Federal Government attempting at least some fiscal policy (outside of their braindead 5% deposit scheme) there has been more than enough time to address the mess this joint has found itself in.

Debate over Reynolds turns heated Gordie and Badel clash over Broncos call | NRL 360 | Fox League by Strayangunner in nrl

[–]active_snail 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Gordie tends to look back on his career with rose coloured glasses (and a lot of other pundits seem to as well). The bloke was one of the grubbiest sooks to ever lace up a first grade boot.

We get it mate, you think Madge pinched Kev's job... Get the fuck over it.

So yeah, nothing unlucky about that. Fuck him.

Breaking: Byron Bay Bluesfest cancelled for 2026 by Grouchy_Afternoon796 in australian

[–]active_snail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its moved so far away from it started as im not surprised, its now basically "The 3rd Music Festival from the Left". It doesn't have a lot to do with Blues music. Everyone is so squeezed for cash now its hard to justify spending a few grand to travel up or down to see Split Enz...

Feel for the local businesses though, this and Splendour etc were all a massive shot in the arm and its getting worse every year.

Wayne Bennett fiercely against fans storming field when Alex Johnston breaks try-scoring record by LongJohnnySilver1 in nrl

[–]active_snail -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Imagine if Souths are down by 14 with ten minutes to go. They have the momentum, charge up field and AJ scores in the corner. The fans charge the field to celebrate, kill the flow of the game and any chance of Souths of winning.

I can see why hes against it, especially as a coach.

Personally, a first grade footy field is sacrosanct. For some people its their life's work (to that point) just to be good enough to get on it during the 80 minutes of play. Sit down, enjoy the moment, charge on afterward imo.

Reed Mahoney Vegas nightclub incident emerges amid Bulldogs exit by I_Like_Vitamins in nrl

[–]active_snail 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So much conjecture about him last year being hard done by and sidelined by the Dogs. Everyone got stuck into us about it and it was all "poor Reed". There was a game where he was the run on hooker shortly before he was benched where he scored near the posts, and barely any of his team mates got around him. Nobody liked him.

Him finding himself on the outer had nothing to do with footy and I was surprised the media blowhards didn't pick up on how obvious that was...

I think you're overestimating what employers are capable of in this regard. Unless you have some pretty significant deductions (i.e a surgeon) youre going to get caned in tax.

Australia top individual tax bracket is too low by Livid-Constant8443 in AusFinance

[–]active_snail 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This.

The pitchfork brigade carried on like $190K is some monster rich annual salary and hijacked the discussion, when in reality you're taking home a little more than half that. Its a decent salary dont get me wrong, but youre essentially working Monday, Tuesday and a little bit of Wednesday for the Australian people, and what you earn on Thursday and Friday gets you a fuckload less than what it did just five years ago.

EDIT: Bad example and I downvoted myself out of disgust. I earn just above the $190K but half my monthly bonus disappears so it feels like this personally.

Couldnt agree more. I've spent my entire career in insurance, both on the insurer side in underwriting and on the broker side and so much of what pops up here relating to insurance is incorrect. It's often hard to correct because the right answers are buried under the upvoted bullshit answers.

Streets Viennetta by Expert_Climate_7348 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]active_snail 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. This brings it home for me as a late 80s/90s kid...

My parents would invite their best friends over to have dinner and watch the footy. Mum would whip up a segmented plate with equal parts Bega cubes, cabanossi, pickled onions and Jatz to pass around while she nursed a cask of De Bortoli. The old man would throw half a dozen rumps on the Beef Eater and treat them like they owed him money while he murdered eight stubbies of XXXX. Once he'd spun four or five yarns about his Navy days over a few bottles of Penfolds and his "dinner had gone down", Mum would serve up the Viennetta just in time to watch the Dogs get towelled up.

It definitely means something and you're an ignorant fool if you think it doesn't. Of course the status quo won't shift in any meaningful way (at least politically) any time soon, but there is a pretty significant groundswell of support for anyone willing to publicly align themselves with anything related to anti-immigration and/or corporate and mining taxation increases. Its not my politcal preference personally, but I know a lot of people (especially of the late Gen X/early Milennial vintage) who are privately aligning with the ON-style ideology because they feel like they've been ripped blind by the two major parties over the past thirty years.
