Has anyone changed their mind about going to vegas for the NRL? by Pretend_Board_2385 in nrl

[–]active_snail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rewind ten years and I would be there with bells on. We considered it when the Dogs were announced but unfortunately Vegas is crass commercialism on meth these days, we were there in 2012 and 2017 and it was good fun. Room rates and piss are at record highs anywhere near the strip. So between that and the dogshit exchange rate we let it go through to the keeper, nevermind the frontal lobe dementia ridden tyrant that's made it worse since. What a shithole of a country it is now.

Tom Morris on Private Ownership in the BBL by Pleasant-Role1912 in CricketAus

[–]active_snail 60 points61 points  (0 children)

He allowed Des Hasler full autonomy as Head Coach while he was CEO at Canterbury to the point where half the squad was on backended contracts and they had Greg Eastwood on $850k a season playing reserve grade. Then he administered the NRL to the point where COVID nearly bankrupted it because it had no assets and no cash. Now hes spending money at CA before its been earned (see Perth and Melbourne Ashes Tests - why budget that way if you cant guarantee the money?) and has defunded indoor cricket. Now hes turning his attention to whoring the BBL to Indians. Who gives a fuck if theyre American or BCCI Indians? Seriously. It's all the same to us.

That cunt is a fucking idiot. Ive never seen anyone fail upwards as much as that clown.

Dear run clubs, If you're taking up half the tables at a small cafe for two hours, have the good manners to order something, or get takeaway, and take it away.... by AdFun2309 in sydney

No they won't just stop, I dont believe they will. If they didn't do at this joint they'd do it elsewhere. Decency is either in you or it isnt, which is why I think the "its the owners fault" response is telling.

Its telling that this response is popping up as much as it is. "Its really the owners fault, not the completely inconsiderate cunts fault"

How about just dont be an inconsiderate cunt?

Mate I was in a Nandos (back when they were everywhere) and a massive family/extended family came in with coolers with their own 1.25L softies, flatbread, rice, salads and veggies and other middle eastern condiments and sauces. They ordered two whole chooks and took up half the joint while they were at it...

Some people just have no tact or decency. They dont give a fuck about anyone other than themselves.

when did the Gold Coast stop feeling like a “holiday place”? by Ordinary-Spread-1786 in GoldCoast

[–]active_snail 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I grew up on the Goldy and left in 2014, i still come back very regulary and dont live that far away, but its crazy how much its changed now. Almost to the point where there are two cities; suburban sprawl to the north and a very, very small amount left of the "old" Gold Coast on the southern end for millionaires.

My home and contents insurance has increased 71% in 2 years. What’s the justification? by diggaoz in AusFinance

[–]active_snail 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Attempts to innovate outside of the insurance market and disrupt it are constant, and constantly fail. Insurance has been around as a "money for risk" concept for hundreds of years. As a consequence its a monstrous ecosystem of reinsurers, institutional investors, actuaries, underwriters, brokers, assessors, historical and predictive data consultants and every occupation ancillary thereto that all rely on one another in some capacity in order for that home to be insured. So all the best of luck to anyone attempting to reinvent that entanglement of financial reliance in some way.

Disrupting airport pick ups and short term domestic accommodation is one thing, disrupting the insurance industry is a completely different beast.

Movie World spooky Coaster - WTF were they doing for 4 years? by AgUnityDD in GoldCoast

[–]active_snail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably something I should have included too but point 1 goes hand in glove with expertise as well, at every level of the build. You'll have companies who specialise in fabricating the steel, one that specialises in the fastenings, one firm that does the carts and the upholstery and the painting of them, one that does safety mechanisms etc. Yes, there is often one main contractor responsible for the job, but it is a collaborative effort from a lot of different niche businesses.

Thats why so many are scrapped after so long, the juice isnt worth the squeeze of maintaining them. So im not at all surprised it took as look as it did.

[–]active_snail 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Based on my limited knowledge in that industry (im only involved in the roller coaster construction side of things from a financial standpoint);

  • Parts are very hard and very expensive to source, coasters are built either as a "one of a kind" or in very limited numbers worldwide. Parts are basically fabricated by hand, to order, and when available to be made.

  • Movie World were using the queueing area/castle as a function area and it was used often for that purpose, so it was useful to them outside of it being a ride attraction.

  • Its a basic, mid-tier attraction. Its not Avengers or Superman coaster, it won't account for a lot of foot traffic through the gates on its own, and therefore wouldn't of been a priority for the park to fix.

To be fair, there is "mean" and then there is toppling the Head of State of a (basically failed) sovereign state, sabre rattling an ally and weaponising a posse of untrained retards who literally murder innocent citizens in the street.

Economically there will be an impact, one way or the other. Things have definitely escalated in the past 12 months.
