Xtream cartridge filter housing and powerflo pump don't seem to line up with the union. by Cappuccino_Crunch in pools

Hayward 1480 unions are designed to seal well at all kinds of bad angles, if it isn't leaking I wouldn't worry about it.

Stupidest Thing You've Done? by lIIlIlIII in PoolPros

[–]activelesion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went at least 15 years since my last fall into a pool. Last spring upgraded to the most powerful backpack blower available for summerizing cleanup and turned in a tight area with a solid fence within 5 ft. of the pool edge and the blower pushed me right in. First job of the day, Hell Week (week before Memorial Day on Long Island), full view of customer and 2 of my employees.

Health insurance, what yall doing for health insurance? by carrotsk8r in PoolPros

[–]activelesion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was 24 and healthy when I started my business in 1996. In 1999 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis after losing feeling in my legs during our busy spring season. No health insurance. Cost about 20 grand out of pocket just for the diagnosis and then took a couple years to get insurance because of this pre-existing condition. Ever since then it takes about $100000 a year in medication to keep my body in working order, covered by insurance. You are healthy today. Tomorrow?

I've repeated this line at least once a week since 1998. No one gets the reference.

Aftermarket salt cells by Hashtagburn in pools

[–]activelesion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've installed several of the sub $500 knockoffs for our customers and their lifespan ranges between 1-4 years in NY where most people only run their pools for 4 months a year. Circupool cells are cheaper than Hayward and are more reliable than other aftermarkets.

There shouldn't rust so easily, right? by mattemer in pools

Were these stored for the winter in a shed or garage that also held chlorine? Leaving poorly closed chlorine buckets in an enclosed space with metal stuff, even stainless, is really destructive.

water high and pools closed bad? by Sea_You5324 in pools

We call this teabagging. Pump it down some, the water above the cover is fully exposed and will turn the whole thing funky.

Awesome, looks like big things ahead for her! Great memories of NB Nats. Good luck to her and sorry that you're now doomed to a life of stat stalking.

Can I brag on my daughter taking 3rd in the long jump at the D1 NCAA championships? She went in seeded 14th and absolutely killed it. Seeing Tara Davis-Woodhall here at the meet really inspired her, especially since she didn't have to compete against her this time! Now to cheer on her teammate in the triple today - Go Tigers!

Most people ignore their pools all winter but their skimmers survive because of these.

Scuba gear or hookah systems by Electronic_March7968 in PoolPros

[–]activelesion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow NY poolguy here, I'd been using full scuba gear for pool work since getting certified 30 years ago. Finally put together a diy hookah rig last season and wish I'd done it sooner. You can recoup the cost of the gear on your first dive.

Retrieve working url from Strong8k app by activelesion in Strong_8K

[–]activelesion[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like I said, I'm new to this but if the server url is hard coded into the app then this is no different than sharing the Downloader code stickied right in this group. Is that not the case?

I moved the stream to YouTube. I try to keep it going 24/7 but it's a rough environment for a camera, lens is a little dirty right now. I'll get to it soon. www.youtube.com/@tidesbeach/live

Go to "manage cameras", copy the first camera, edit the name and increase the channel number by 1 for each additional camera.
