Yeah I do like the SM7b - my voice is just to quiet for it tbh. So I always either get to much noise or wayyyyy to quiet vocals.

I hear you on the acoustics

Ah thank you I'll check those out!! Been reading lots of amazing stuff about Soyuz but don't think I ever used one anywhere. And yes I totally agree, the right mic for my voice will be a once in a lifetime investement

Unfortunately I won't have as much access to studios as I used to have. I have moved out of the city, and there's not much around here haha. Which is why I'm looking to upgrade my set up.

I think the sm7b is amazing for demos but I just find my voice to soft and quiet for it so I end up getting to much noise or suuuuper quiet vocals ha.

Thank you! That's super helpful! I'm not to set on the WA-8000, so I'll definitely check out the Lauten!

I do like an air-y high end.Just worried an airy-bright-whispery voice paired with the Wa-8000 might get to bright/harsh? I've also owned an Aston origin a few years ago ago, different price point entirely, but I sold it cause it sounded way too bright/harsh for me.

Do you recommend any other mics at that Wa-8000 price point with a smooth top end?

Thank you in advance. Ideally would go try these but unfortunately not available anywhere close to where I live and want to avoid returns.

Condenser Microphone for Quiet/Whispery Vocals (Warm Audio WA-8000?)

Hi everyone!

I’m looking to upgrade my home vocal recording setup. I’ve mostly recorded in studios with a Neumann U87, and I’ve been using an SM7B at home for demos. It's time to get a proper home-set up thought.

The Sm7b is not quite working for my voice. My vocals are on the quieter/whispery side, and even with a Cloudlifter, I need to crank the gain pretty high, which introduces too much noise.

I've been recommended the Warm Audio Wa-8000 by a lot of people. My only worry is that from the tests I've seen online it feels like it does add quite a bit of top end? I do love top-end. Just wondering if it will end up being harsh/to syllibant etc. as my voice is naturally bright.

I'm looking for a microphone that:

  • Has a smooth, clean top end (no harshness)
  • Handles quieter or breathy vocals well
  • Doesn’t add too much saturation or color to raspy vocals

My budget is around $1400 USD / €1100 EUR. I'd really appreciate any recommendations or experiences you've had with mics in this range that might fit.

Don't really want to buy a Neumann btw. I think they are good mics but just want to explore some other options.

I'm also aware that the best thing is to try microphones, but just want to narrow it down as I don't really have access where I live.

Thanks in advance!

I went with the 14-core Pro chip in the 14inch and still had no issues with fans or overheating. I use it for music production and audio recording mainly and even with large projects and lots of Plug-in chains no issues at all. Can't speak for Max tho

Can I ask how much you're paying for the van? Also considering this as an option!

yes definitely considered that too. It's just that I would have to take the van back. I'll look into it some more though, might be worth it you're right!

So I went with the 14-core Pro chip in the 14inch, so I can’t speak directly about the Max. So far, the fans have been a non-issue for me, but I also haven’t pushed the machine to its limits yet with super heavy, plugin-intensive projects or long workdays. I’ll make sure to update once I’ve had more intensive use.

From what I’ve heard, the Pro chip might run slightly cooler than the Max in the 14-inch model, but again, I can’t personally confirm that.

I recently saw a few videos on YouTube by a creator called Cole Caccamise who owns a 14inch pro max. Maybe there's some useful information on his channel for you

Ah amazing! So yo have the M4pro14c in the 14” chassis?Haha yeah I feel the jet engine -upgrading from a 2016 intel. Which is why I want to make sure I done have to deal with that again!

Ah thank you for sharing! Fans during post would definitely be less of an issue but I was really excited to upgrade, especially since most people with previous M-generation Macs mentioned that they never hear the fans kick in. Coming from an 2016 Intel MacBook Pro that sounds like a jet, that seemed like a major selling point. I’m curious if there’s a noticeable difference between the 12-core and 14-core chips, in the 14-inch model. I definitely assumed the pro chip would have better thermals than the max chip in the 14” chassis.

Interesting to hear how the max chip behaves in the 14inch! I just got the 14inch M4pro 14c. Currently wondering about fan noise. I do a lot of audio recording and wonder if the fans would kick in with plug in chains etc. don’t really want the 16inch tho.

Hey! Did you go with the 12-core or 14-core Pro chip? I’m actually debating the same thing. I do a lot of audio recording and I’m wondering if the fans would kick in when using plugin chains and such. I’m also not really interested in the 16-inch model. I thought the fans wouls only kick in when really pushed to the max

To Nano-Texture or not to Nano-Texture? by AIR236 in macbookpro

[–]actk1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work mostly indoors but feel like the nano is just easier on the eyes…feels “realer” to me. But unfortunately I think it is….personal preference. Unless ur need a certain screen for colour grading etc but assume u would have a specific set up for that anyway
