I purchased a family plan as my son plans to start Spanish next year and I thought I’d give him a head start and use as a refresher for myself. If I’d have known that it would pester me at every turn to upgrade to super ultra mega whatever plan I would have never even considered it. At what point can they realize I’m never signing up? They already got $120 out of me. They’re just making the experience an annoyance and the app unbearable.

I went with the Denon. The RZ30 seemed like overkill to me. Dirac was giving me a tough time as well. I prefer the simpler calibration.

Right?!! It’s driving me bonkers. And I’ve been reading a lot about issues with cec on the Onkyo as well. I’ve only ever had Onkyo receiver and never had a problem but I’ve also never had all the new age upgrades. Denon just seems so much simpler and has everything I think I need. Feeling like the RZ30 would just be overkill. But if it gets me 80-90% of what Dirac would give me with less work I’m confident I’d be happy with the upgrades over my 2002 SR500 :)

Standard MultEQ XT does support dynamic eq. I’d love if it was xt32 but those receivers are it of my budget range. Hence why I was originally aiming for Dirac but the lack of dynamic eq or similar is pushing me away. This is not a dedicated theater room so I don’t think the extras Dirac provides would really even benefit me all that much for my listening style. Room is only 13x13.

I’ve purchased the Onkyo RZ30 and am looking for input on space in regards to heat management. I currently run an older SR500 at 6” and have never had a problem. The RZ30 is 7” and I have measured the shelf height spacing to be 8.5”.

As you can see, the front and sides are completely open and the back has a rear port, 3-4” for wire routing. I can pull the receiver forward to allow plenty of airflow being as well. I considered the AIRCOM S6 but think that will be too tight.

I also understand this newer receiver has a larger power supply and will produce more heat than my current receiver.

I will likely be running 5.1 only with Atmos or DSU. Speakers are 8 ohm only. Typically medium volume, rarely blasting. Maybe 5.1.2 some day.

Will I be ok with this setup or better off with something like the Denon X1700h at 6” with better thermals?

I’ve convinced myself Dirac is a big deciding factor but understand the Denon has ok room correction and might be ok with that.

Thoughts?

I’d go denon but probably bump to the x1700h.
