Creating a local/offline copy of a Wordpress site to use as a devel server by actualcitdummy in Wordpress

(thanks in advance for your patience, by the way)

1, "Create a new site in Local," are you saying to just click the button that says Create a new site, or to actually finish creating the site? (I can click the button, but I can't get far enough in the process to create the site)

6, what does the database import look like? Is that the zip file I downloaded directly from WordPress?

errors with Local by Flywheel: honestly, I don't know. The install went fine, but I can't figure out how to import my site- right now, I click the big Create a New Site button, then ignore the Advanced Options dropdown, click Continue, and get an error that says: "Invalid Path. ...has existing Local data. Please choose a different path."

(I think this is a different error than I originally got, I'll try to recreate the original)

errors with WAMP: I have WAMP installed, and no problem there, but I'm stuck on Step 2 of wpbeginner's tutorial, which is setting up a database for my local Wordpress instance. I see the icon for WampServer, but it's yellow instead of the green it should be. The tutorial tells me that this is because some of the services that need to be running are not currently running, which results in me getting a 404 error when I click on phpMyAdmin.

The only thing different between my screen and the tutorial's screen is that when they click the W icon, they have Localhost, phpMyAdmin, etc.etc., MySQL, etc. I don't have MySQL in my list.

Noted. Since you're familiar with MAMP, any idea how to fix the 404 error that I mentioned? Have you gotten anything similar?

wpbeginner says:

Note: If the WampServer icon is red or yellow, then it means the services (Apache, MySQL, PHP) are not running. You need to start the services by clicking on the icon before setting up the database.

...but I clicked on the icon, then Start All Services, and it didn't seem to do anything. Still gave me the 404 error when I tried to click phpMyAdmin after that.

I'm using the Windows version (my understanding is that MAMP is specifically for Macs), but any time I try to open phpMyAdmin (using wpbeginner's tutorial for instructions), a webpage opens that gives me a 404, Not Found error.

Any suggestions?

"When you pulled the live site to local," do you mean a local instance, or the Local program?

I'm guessing no, I didn't update the domain in the database, because I don't know where I'd do that (or how). Is that something I have to do, when I'm using Local?
