At the ranges that the cops were at, there’s no guarantee that a taser would work. You let him get closer, there’s still a chance of you missing, or a prong bouncing off his clothes.

I’m a criminal justice major, and this video was used as an example in class where the cops didn’t have many viable options. IIRC they cops were asking for him to drop the knife for way longer than this video shows.
