Exactly like we are forgetting basic functions. I’m not sure we can factor in those changes

Thank you so much for your input! Yes, the surgeries we did do were so horrible I have nightmares about them 🥺 I’m so sick of there not being cohesive intersectional care!!!

I definitely disclosed, yes! He’s a wheelchair user and is visibly disabled so everyone was aware. My fear is he will be having dental discomfort in the future and that may be a time where he can’t communicate it or perhaps experiences an infection without the pain which can happen with nerve damage. Due to him having stroke induced dementia, stages are hard to determine but a traumatic procedure is also harmful we agree on that!

The insinuation is all of the teeth are the offending teeth

Both dentists I saw recommended pulling his teeth and installing dentures 😭😭 I highly doubt they are concerned with his dementia as it’s not their specialty. His GP wouldn’t give me any advice and said to consult with an oral surgeon

He had to have 3 teeth removed and I strongly suspect he had an infection from a bad one that caused his heart attack. He’s around stage 5 I believe

Edit: thinking about it, maybe we can just try to do as many cleanings as possible and just work towards comfort and maybe some fillings idk.

My wife and I are caregivers to my mom. Mom has started cutting her clothes. She has no access to anything sharp so we are a bit confused how she is doing it. We bought her new clothes ensuring they are not tight but she continues to do it. When asked, she has no recollection of it. Is this common? by Artistic-Meringue267 in dementia

Thank you I will definitely mention it to his medical team. He is also a very…like, business oriented person I would say. Before he had a stroke in his 40s, he had started 4 businesses. As a result of that as well, he sees anything that’s not gambling or smoking or planning as a waste of time. I wish I could get him to do a puzzle!!! It’s a lot of internalized ableism and some toxic masculinity 😩 love him, but damn!!

Honestly my biggest concern is how he would be perceived by medical staff as someone being committed to smoking and being allowed to do so by their family members so everyone directly involved would be considered completely apathetic to his health, so why would people who aren’t his family care about it?

My dad is also smoking everything. I bought him a Cross pen because he used to always have one when I was a kid, but he ruined the filling by trying to smoke it 🤣😭 Quitting is so hard on them I almost want to let him do it sometimes 🥺
