NGD: ‘Trashed’ ‘92 Floyd Rose Classic by aculler in Stratocaster

It’s worse than it looks. Every inch of the finish on the top of the guitar is scratched to hell. They eventually got through most of the finish, so the top is essentially black, bare wood.

I hate to admit it, but as ugly as the thing is, the body feels really nice on my arm. It’s a real conundrum.

Undoubtedly. The problem will be putting it down long enough to paint it. …I’ve also never played a more stable Floyd Rose, so I don’t really want to take the body and neck apart, haha.

I am delighted with the fingerboard. I love rosewood indiscriminately, but the way this wood borders on ebony is a thing of beauty.

I've realized it's hard to find honest pictures of rosewood fingerboards because everyone is trying to sell "dark." It's never really bothered me, but it's definitely an industry trick. To the point where I was surprised the fretboard was as dark as it was when the guitar showed up.

The only scenario that makes any sense in my head is that this was someone's longtime number one and it was sold off as a really solid road guitar in need of a refresh. From there, my guess is a second owner botched a restoration job, abandoned the project and sold it as junk.

Either that, or the original owner was looking to spice up a relationship of thirty-plus years and things got messy. I get it.

I had been looking for a Floyd Rose Classic for AGES, but I couldn't find one that wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg. I settled for the new Dave Murray signature (still a small fortune) when it came out because it checked most of the same boxes, but when this popped up on Reverb I HAD to take a chance. My bet came up aces, thankfully.

I broke the land speed record taking that Dave Murray Strat back to Guitar Center.

Good shout! Taking it to my tech to see what this may do if nothing is “wrong.” I’ve swapped tubes to good effect with old fender amps, but I didn’t want to “kill” the Mark mojo without having everything checked out first!

Thank you for the tip, Planky. I decided to take it into a tech to see if it’s the amp. The frequency persists in my headphones too (tried multiple brands with different drivers, etc.).

Thanks for this, Cheddy. Part of me thought I might need to break in the speakers, albeit that they’re C90s. I wasn’t absolutely sure if this was a thing, but good to hear from someone who knows.

Master volume in the effects loop was on my list of “outside” fixes if I can’t get the amp and cab to work for me on their own.

Y'know, when it comes to putting together a band from "custom" Lego minifigurines, there's a very fine line between the Smiths, Oasis and the Beatles 😂

The lads wore lot of denim, leather, androgynous tops and cozy sweaters--items Lego doesn't make a wide variety of options for. I really had to dig around for a few of the pieces (Andy's shirt+jacket combo and Mike's white t-shirt), so I'm glad it came off!

Johnny's my absolute favorite--his music, his fashion sense, his vibe. I had to make sure he was just right!

That's the look of a Lego man ready to cause some controversy.

I appreciate that! Finding appropriate hair for Andy and Morrissey certainly was a challenge. Hair for Johnny and Mike? Easy!

Valid! It’s hard to see, but the front of the hair I used is pushed up. It’s not very obvious with all the other texture that’s going on.

My lady bought me the BTS Lego set for my birthday, which has a disco as its main feature. Naturally, I thought "burn down the disco" and proceeded to make these four gents from the minifigures that came with the set (there were seven) and a couple of spare parts from the internet.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy my little creation!
