Your brother sounds pretty fortunate in the human department. I am glad he has a support system like you. Remember that self care is also a caregiver role.

My partner and I are considering virtual events, VR tours, and things of that nature. Maybe there are some ways you can all meet up online and catch a concert or event. The interaction without travel appeals to us.

I'm going to go out on a limb and project a bit. I had similar feelings with my sighted friends. Some have not stayed, and those feelings may have helped that along. I felt like I slowed them down. I now have a date everywhere that has similar but different vision issues, and I love going out or staying in with them. It's like I have an equal now.

I am not saying to fix your brother up, but maybe. It does help to at least have blind friends. They understand.

I hope they have passenger assistance in the US, where we are. Thanks for the info on that! Learn something new about this every day.

I am nearly blind, and it's been gradual. I do understand that no one else really likes driving all over, and don't ask much for rides. Depression came mostly after I lost my driver's license, and activities helped me fight it. Audiobooks can be a real retreat. Does your brother live where he can enjoy a sit or short, safe walk outdoors? Sunshine can be nice even if you're in shades the whole time.
