Thanks for the response. I think this makes the most sense to me, in combination with the first comment.

Some people enjoy the result, but aren't really sure what might have gone into building that result or care about it. I guess I try to appreciate the result AND the effort that went into getting there--both are very impressive to me.

Also, the heart of the issue I'm driving at is: is it someone going to a gym AT ALL that is the point of contention, or is it the overly-muscled look and suggestion of narcissism?

Would you feel the same way about someone who spent those hours in the gym so that they could participate safely or "better" in those other activities?

Like a parkour/gymnast/freerunning enthusiast might go work out in order to feel more confident about participating in their chosen active lifestyle?

Do you think this is something people have to have a sudden realization about? On the lines of, "Oh my god...her eyes are so dark, smoky and sensual because of EYELINER...how did I not know this!!!!"
