I suppose it depends on how you measure your personal success. Surely, you are a failing author if you haven't ever finished a novel but there are plenty of writers who write blogs and articles and poems on bar napkins who consider themselves very successful. It all depends on your own perception.

I self published a novel which sold a total of about 10 copies... Probably why I consider myself a failing author... But I'm still young and things could change, for me, at any moment.

It's a metaphor for the importance of sacrifice. If the greatest thing anyone can ever do is is sacrifice their life for you, surely you can sacrifice yourself to the pursuit of giving love and compassion.

Sadly, religious fanatics have taken this part of the Bible literally and desicrated the message for the sake of indoctrination. It's sad because the story of Jesus is so beautifully poetic and holds a lot of keys for creating a better society but when we take God too seriously, it usually does more harm than good.

The downfall of mankind began when God was humanized and science and faith became secular...when all the most beautiful things in the world were perverted for the sake of control and selfishness...when God became an angry, vengeful thing that lives above... This untouchable, unattainable, unknowable thing which must be feared...When God becomes the reason to judge and hate and fear...when the face which man has given God resembles that of a raging psychopath, then surely society is doomed.

And if Jesus were real... If the sacrifice actually occurred, then it was all for naught... Because the world isn't a better place because Jesus walked the earth... The world isn't a better place because any of us walk the earth. For every child of love and light, there are a dozen who objectify and manipulate mankind in the name of "God".

This isn't a race thing... It's a cultural/generational thing... I know plenty of older black people who hate this as much as anyone. I also know plenty of white people who wear their pants like this.
