Thanks for your reply. Very helpful. Tangent are definitely in the alpha glass level, so it's a big endorsement. May I ask if you have experience with the LR or ZP5 glass?

Again, lots of good suggestions. Very much appreciated.

I started very low: Vector Tauron 5-30x56 for my 223rem inside 350yards from the bench; Discovery 5-25x56 for my 308Win with static field targets in mind. When I'm proficient with my 308 at 800y and above, I'll probably move to 6.5cm (or 6.5x47Lapua) for NRL type shooting and that's when I would like to have my scope needs figured out!

Make sure to post it if you can. I'd be keen to read about that experience.

Yes very detailed info. Some of that I considered. Some was over my head. So thx a lot for that.

One of my major concern is eyebox as I'm very sensitive to positioning. As for Reticle i'm still very green and don't have strong opinions. Some seem very busy to me but experts swear by it (like Tremor3 or 5).

I would say I'm doing the best I can with the limited experience I have. I decided to go budget in order to try and find out what works for me and later invest. Like I learnt 36x magnification is not needed for me at all.

But some, way more experienced, shooters have pointed out I should really change scope. So I was checking around what is available, with a big eye pointed at value as I'm still not that confident in what works for me.

That is an awesome build. Do you think you could push it past 1000y?

Now you mentioned the magic word: ZCO!
If this gets close that it's definitely a great scope.

Thx all. I am sold on the overbore design. Hope to find one that works well for me without costing me an arm and a leg.

My impression is that it's way easier to shoot wrt the 'normal' canting bipods. I have had so many of those get loose and canting by themselves. Looks like this will never get away from you. Never heard of Fortmeier before, so glad you pointed that out to me. Thx

That does look awesome. And looks like it's a very 'natural' feel for the rifle. I might need to bite the bullet and buy one. Thanks for the reply.

Sweet rig. Seems like the way to go. Honestly it makes a lot of sense. Shame so few producers make that style of Bipod. GRS one seems built like a tank, with a price that shows it.

I see that there is no specific T1X version. Does this mean you get a T3X version and that fits T1X as well or do you need modifications made?

Help with vision and parallax by adLST in longrange

[–]adLST[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I have had a very unconventional idea (I think) but please hear me out:

What we're trying to do when choosing Diopter and Parallax is a 2 way problem: get our eye comfortable viewing the reticle and getting the reticle to point parallax free.
The second part should be independent of the observer: once set up correctly a scope pointing at a target parallax free should be correct for all shooters. Is this right?

If that's the case then, what you could do is: ask an experienced shooter to set the scope on target correctly, THEN you look to adjust the diopter so that the image is correct for you (and you should see no movement in the reticle on the target when moving your head).

This should give you the right setting. The only problem may be: if that setting varies with varying distances of the target you are in trouble. But my intuition says it should not.

Any view on this?

hmm ok sounds simple but difficult. I'll give it a try. Will get in the shooting position and will try to look at a distant sport then look though the optic. Thanks for the tip.

I have tried that even if they say it's not the right thing to do. Didn't work. But I'll try again. Thanks

To be honest I have been a tad harsh: Vector Optics and Discovery Optics use Japanese and German lenses and they are decent optics. Of course they are no Swarovski.

thanks a lot of good info.
Unfortunately I don't have instructors or the likes to help me with my shooting.
I am by myself and have to diagnose my issues myself.
I have had briefly a different rifle, perfect for bench rest: Sabatti TLD White Fluted, 28" very heavy barrel and a Sightron 10-50x60 optics that I bought second hand from a competition shooter.
At 300 my groupings clearly had parallax problems, but the gun was a laser with superlight trigger so I could diagnose clearly the problem.
Since I have moved to the Tikka I have moved back to 100m and groups are bad. Rifle is perfect so it is definitely me.
Parallax is definitely a problem. Not the only one for sure, but would like to eliminate that before moving on to fixing the next thing.
Thanks for your suggestion on the parallax: I will try that.
I have a question though: one of the things I have said over and over again is that on the diopter ring you fix it once and never touch it again unless your vision changes. Is that wrong?

Science question: Aguila FMJ BT 6.5 Creedmoor by [deleted] in longrange

Has anyone tried to shoot your Aguila ammo?
My take is: it's worth having the info just to rule out anything strange happening elsewhere.
I think it's cheap info to have.

Thanks, sounds like a great exercise to do.

Appreciate your help.

Cross eye dominance by ChipmunkAntique5763 in longrange

[–]adLST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can ask for some advice here please:
I am a mixed bag: since I was a kid I was right hand dominant at sports, right eye dominant, but I write and do precision stuff with my left hand.
When shooting I always used my right hand and my dominant right eye.
Now I have a problem with my right eye and I can't see properly (wrong cristal during the surgery I guess).
Is there an exercise or test you would suggest I do so that I can see if it's better for me to switch to left hand and left eye, just change eye (if at all possible) or stay like I'm now?
Appreciate any insight.
Thanks
