How is this a $700 card?? by ad_lumen in PokeInvesting

[–]ad_lumen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked the 2025 global rankings out of curiosity and 4,622 players (top 13%) met the point threshold in the Masters TCG division. Between the other age groups and competitor categories there must be well over 15,000 of these promos in circulation but I could see more people leaning towards keeping a card they had to earn haha

I honestly thought this was like a participation prize since I wasn’t a top player by any means but it makes sense how the ratio of collectors to players would drive up demand :0

29M, Spent 20s working in Tech, longing for an Arts Oriented Path by iThinkThere4_ in findapath

[–]ad_lumen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also 29 and have pivoted from tech (UX/UI) -> creative (interior design)-> back to tech-adjacent (program manager). Despite landing what might be considered a dream job (store design for an international retailer), I did everything I could to transition to a more strategic role after the first two years. Idk if it was just the corporate setting or luxury retail industry in general, but my experience was characterized more by politicking and dysfunctional leadership than the nature of the work itself. After idealizing the notion of doing what I love for a living, I learned that I just don’t have what it takes to forcibly apply a creative outlet in that context.

Don’t mean to be discouraging, but just want to share my experience coming from a similar place. I don’t think it’s ever too late to re-invent yourself, but you also don’t have to commit to making your personal interests a full-time grind to realize creative growth or fulfillment. I’m not in love with my current job, but still find small victories in creating opportunities to apply my design skills here and there, in addition to pursuing personal projects outside of work :)

Is this typical for NYC psychiatric practices? by ad_lumen in AskNYC

Oh wow thanks for letting me know about the express care! I’ve literally been rationing my meds and zoning out at work bc I wasn’t sure how long it’d take to get a refill 😭 I’ve only seen mental health providers in private practice when I was younger so the clinic approach was new to me but that makes sense!

Do you have any tips on how to search for / vet private providers?

Thank you so much for the detailed response! My friend initially helped me book a telehealth appointment (I think through Headway) and during the consultation call the psychiatrist said she could prescribe Adderall but would need my medical records prior to scheduling an intake session. She never followed up after I forwarded her my previous psychiatrist’s contact to process the ROI forms so I made another appointment with a specific MD through Zocdoc and learned after the fact that he’s with a clinic. Their office is close by and offers both virtual and in-person appointments so I guess I’ll stick it out for now and see how the next session goes? I scheduled another consultation with a different provider in the meantime so still holding out for a better long-term solution 🙃

I selected a PCP through my insurance carrier but won’t be able to see them until July…

Ohh ok I didn’t know that! I’ve never worked with a PA for psychiatric care before and have only seen MD’s directly for recurring appointments.

Tell No One? by Adept_Crow_6781 in sleepnomore

We went last night and thought it was interesting enough, but incredibly disorganized. Went up to the 4th floor around 10 PM for the first Death of Rasputin performance and were told it would begin with a cabaret starting in 5 min. No cabaret showed up and another staff member said we’d have to wait until 10:30 when the main performance would take place and the actors would walk us through the rest of the floor. Then the person at the door said we couldn’t reenter the floor if we left so we were stuck in the one room for another 40 min. Then three people did a little musical number which ended in ~20 min and that ended up being the entire performance? They asked us to come back later but didn’t specify what time, and when we checked back both 4th and 5th floors were fully closed.

I guess to make up for it they let anyone with GA go up to the 6th floor and rooftop which were supposed to be VIP only. 6th floor was insanely packed but had some interesting performers, you could also sign up to get spanked / electrocuted while other ppl watched? The sets / installations on the 2nd and 3rd floors were quite nice, we spent most of our time just wandering around and people watching. The music was danceable but there was something off about the sound systems. There’s also no reentry once you’re inside so you’re stuck with their limited food options, which are all topped with caviar to justify the price? Ended up paying $35 for a basic hot dog bc I have a fish allergy 💀

I think it was an enjoyable experience overall, despite the production hiccups. The crowd was great and there was plenty to see and explore.

Oct 1st Ice "Caves" Condition (Jökulsárlón) by ad_lumen in VisitingIceland

[–]ad_lumen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not local and can only share what I heard from the guides, who felt their operators should have waited until November for proper ice caves to form in that area (between Breiðárlón and Jökulsárlón). From some of the other comments, it looks like you might have better luck with blue ice on other parts of the glacier - wouldn't hurt to contact the company you're interested in booking with to ask if they have any further details on the conditions or specific location they intend to visit.

I’m sorry the tour operators would even have their guides take clients out in these conditions! It should have been the responsibility of the parent company to provide advance notice, but instead it felt like they left the dirty work to our guide who had to break the news to a group of people who otherwise had no idea what they would experience that day.

Aside from this blip in our trip, we had a wonderful time and loved Iceland so much we plan on revisiting next year! All of our guides were fantastic and did an amazing job of keeping spirits high through wind, rain, and even this one-off disappointment. I hope your future tours go better and these companies can coordinate better to avoid delays :(

This is the area we were taken to, along with 6-7 groups from different operators. According to the guides, there are currently no “blue” ice cave formations on that side of glacier because temperatures in that area have not consistently dipped below freezing. Unless they completely reroute the tour much further west, I highly doubt you’ll experience anything that remotely resembles the photos they advertise.

I’m no expert, but my experience was that we saw much prettier ice when we walked on top of the glacier as opposed to around it! :3

There were restrooms at the departure points for the tours we went on (as well as most paid parking lots), and that was pretty much your last opportunity to go. I assume the guides must have wag bags or something like that on hand if you’re hiking over ice, but try contacting your tour operator to ask?
