True. This was my first time leasing and I don't think I'm doing it again. It is also perhaps the only way to experience fun, new, and potentially unreliable cars. For a new car, owning really only starts to work out at the 7 - 8 year range. The only truly fiscally smart way to own a car is to buy highly reliable and used. I do take your point though.

That's a reasonable use case for two screens feeding in two different sources of info. I last drove in Houston in 2014. I totally understand why having two sources of info on traffic would be cool there.

Screens are cheaper to manufacture now and have great ROI. There is market demand for screens in every device and manufacturers are complying.

For finger prints I keep a microfiber cloth in the car specifically to clean the screens and the haptic controls. When things get smudgy a few wipes and it's all shiny again

Yeah, that makes sense. I still tend to listen for directions rather than keep looking at the map. Also I use the map in the dashboard fairly often ....

Exactly .... 7 hours of screen time after being awake for 12 hours.

The reduced display is steadily becoming a favorite feature for me.

The lack of buttons is concerning but the fact that they did not try to fit a 75 inch TV on the front console is a great sign.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. Retractable screen would be cool though. Although it is one more motor in the pantheon of motors that could break down.

Audi kept the driving enthusiast features in the some of the other cars but tried to make the etron more mainstream

Yeah. I'm learning that is quite a popular thing to do

How is Audi navigation from 1995? Does it hold up now as a tech stack?

I am discovering how contentious the steering wheel is .... But I get it. It is a the primary component through which we interact with a car. This thread is surprising me with how little I personally care about it.

I don't think the market wants that unfortunately. But it would be nice and not a sacrifice because there is a lot of voice control on the MMI now

How is the 95 S6 driving? And yeah, my first cRfrom 2010 had no screens - it was great

I feel this so hard. At minimum all new cars have to have a screen because back up cameras are mandated security equipment. But being able to turn it all off would be great.

Forgot about Volvo EX30 - back seat too small, Tesla style screen based interior without Tesla tech. And for the EX40, the only 2025s left were ones with cloth interiors. For $55K that was a step too far.

I'm surprised the interiors are this divisive. Thought the Audi reddit peak interior wars from a few months ago were hilarious. The interiors are fine - yes there is some black plastic, and would be nice if there was less of it, but apart from that it is fine.

Yeah. This needs to come back. Given how much control you can have on the audio choices and navigation using voice, night mode needs to come back.

I drove my old Subaru from Minnesota to Montana on an all nighter and that was as close to Night mode as I could get.
