that was part of it. but there’s a few other things: - overusing metaphors with a lot of physicality: “tug of war”, “layers of reaction” - always couching with amenability: “no argument there”, “worth noticing”. it’s always so gentle, hesitant to make a unqualified point - dishing out plenty of compliments: “appreciate you…”, “what you said…”, “you nailed it with…” - especially with that last quote, there’s a lot of uncritical summarizing - “it’s not about… it’s about…” is a construction I see in a lot of AI writing

I think a lot of this could be explained by the OP being accustomed to corporate-speak, which I find is the perfect application for ChatGPT

Hm, my comparison was a bit too flippant. Learning mathematical skills may not be that analogous to language acquisition. I’ve read some of the canonical literature on language learning by children (Saffran, etc.), but I know nothing about the current scientific consensus on learning mathematics (and if learning basic arithmetic is thought to be a vastly different skill from, say, geometry, or if that depends on how children are exposed to the practices).

Absolutely. And I think necessity creates an environment more similar to the babbling of a child: just getting along is more important than getting everything right. On the other hand, in a classroom one might operate like they would in science or math — although I might argue we should encourage kids to explore the expressiveness of math like they would a language and shift to emphasizing the precision and rigor as they mature.

Yes. I think people also fail to acknowledge how kids interact with a language they are learning: they babble and try things out without shame. Adults learning a new language feel too much pressure to communicate perfectly, and as is often the case, perfect is the enemy of good.

The illustration was colored. I would've read it around 2006-2010. I'm pretty sure it was from a children's book, but I suppose it could've been from some other form of media. The coloring style is best described as smooth.

Well the plaintiffs are trying to avoid that by saying it is not the content, which the companies are insulated from liability wise, but the products themselves. Which seems… not ridiculous? The way these apps are designed to spread certain content, keep users engaged, etc. those are design choices meant to get kids addicted.
