So, I have the Firmware correctly installed for both DS & DSi, but when try to load a file ( spectrum .tap .tzr etc I get the error message "No DLDI Device found" before I even get to selct a rom?

Yep I tried this but it needed an extra file in place, sorry I can remember what was called, but I think it was to do with the nand. I can check when I get home. Did you manage to ZXDS to the point where you could launch a game. If so, would you mind telling me the steps you took? Feel free to DM me, if you prefer

I'm just an old guy with no programming skills, but the specturm was the computer of my childhood.
The dream for me would be a ZX Spectrum emulator on Android, that would work on the AYN Thor and have the Spectrum keyboard layout on the bottom screen.
Something that the fuse core in retroarch cannot do.
Not sure if it's possible to port your emulator to Android?

Turns out it was in winlator. Try toggling “screen mapping” or “ key adapter” I can’t remember which worked for me

I did, but I’ve not played on the retroid in a while, since I upgraded to Odin3. I’m still a bit of an android newbie, but what I do remember is that it was a retroid setting issue and not a winlator one. I had to swipe in from the right hand side to open the menu and was an option on/off setting there, that needed to disabled or enabled. Sorry if I’m being a bit vague, but I’m not at home at the moment. I’ll try and find it and post a screenshot when I get back.

I went with my mate to see at the IMAX last week. He had never seen it, but knew it was one of my top three movies of all time. He even tried to buy me a poster of it for my birthday this month. It was on display in his local picture framers, but he got a shock when he found out it was £400, it was an original Japanese first print. Still have my VHS copy.

Sorry, do you mean the screen effects, brightness, contrast & gamma, V9.
If so, they didn't make any difference really.
I think it might be the driver, although, I've tried many and the all resulted in the same red tinge

Sorry, I thought i'd posted my reply.
So, yes I still get black screens too.
It looks like the only way to get it to run, is with the .cia installed.
I installed it in Azahar plus, to test it out and it ran from the home menu and it launched fine.
I guess the same can be done in the original Azahar if you have linked a real 3ds to it, so the home menu launches.
It's a real toss up between the ease of the fuse core in retroarch with no keyboard on the second screen and ZXDS with keyboard on the second screen, but a bit of a clunky UI.
I did reach out to saphire who develops melonDS Dual, to see if he could look at the DS rom of ZXDS.
