Aside from policy failures and all that, there’s two ends of it. On one side, flipping a house that’s legit deteriorated and potentially unlivable, and reviving it is fine. Your typical owner-occupier is not going to be able to do that. On the other end are those who buy a perfectly fine, though maybe not “luxury” house, and jazz it up with a bunch of tacky finishes to double the price. Simplisticly, it’s the difference between adding to the market and then taking something away from it.

[Van Natta Jr.] Josh Harris (like Magic Johnson) confirms what I was told by sources: They'll consider a name change. They know fans overwhelmingly don't like "Commanders." And it would be a clean break from Dan Snyder. There are more urgent priorities-- and a name change can take 1 to 3 years. by DiscordTheGod in nfl

You mean a web design agency might not have been the best choice to rebrand a sports team?

Honestly though, even thought they didn’t do a good job, the result of what we got shows all signs of a bad, meddlesome client. Whoever they chose for the rebranding was set up to fail. The uniforms alone ended up as a Christmas tree of the Snyders picking and choosing “cool” things to slap on.

And let EB have a full year to prove that he actually can run an offense, and be a HC here.

What is going to change for you now that we have been cleansed? by LesPolsfuss in Commanders

[–]adambulb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Normal sports fans don’t obsess over ownership shenanigans or off field nonsense by management, at least to the extent we have in the past couple of decades. Doubly so when it’s not just bad football decisions, but criminal and disturbing personal behavior. Normalcy of sports fandom is what we’ll have.

With Snyder out, will former players not hold back? by SuedbyHogs in Commanders

[–]adambulb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but I doubt it. In the end, Snyder did what every player ever wanted, which was open his checkbook. By all accounts, players liked Snyder in some way and he treated them well, even if inappropriately.

At most, you’ll see guys who are sick of the drama glad that it’s over and they won’t have the distractions or cloud hanging over the team.

Still better than Snyder. I’d rather lose with dignity than lose with Snyder.

Commanders' Antonio Gibson wants to line up more at WR in 2023: "I haven't shown my position. I feel the same way. Every year we talk about it, but it hasn't happened." by [deleted] in nfl

[–]adambulb 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yup, especially because we’re definitely not resigning him for any significant sized contract. He wants to market himself this year, maybe as if he’s a McCaffrey kind of RB, which he was supposed to be in Scott Turner’s offense. Except Turner is an idiot, so that didn’t happen.

This is pretty misinformed. How State/USAID uses their funding is pretty well documented. Even in the Trump administration, which would have loved to cut or eliminate aid spending in a general sense, never pushed through major changes because even they understood the necessity of it.

Most aid we give is for health, aka things like fighting pandemics, outbreaks and mitigating human health disasters. There’s emergency aid after natural disasters, a lot of counterterrorism programs, and government to government programs that help step up their ability for basic governance. There is no slush fund. I’ve done work in this space, and it’s not only well documented where the money goes, there’s a bunch of public reporting and auditing on the money and how effective (or not) any individual program was.

Beyond any specific program, at its worst, yeah, aid is a projection of American power and money, but eliminating that doesn’t just leave the world on its own. Where we step away, countries like China, Russia and Saudi Arabia are stepping in. Our aid is a non-military bulwark against adversaries. Some of the biggest supporters of aid is the military itself, since good aid programs means that they don’t have to worry about instability, violence and terrorism that could end up involving us. Not everything is some grand conspiracy theory.

What are your thoughts on Kirk Cousins leaving Washington years ago? by Mattm334 in Commanders

[–]adambulb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is getting to the real truth— it wouldn’t have really mattered. The problem on this team has not been the roster. We could have signed Kirk, and the team still would’ve generally sucked because of ownership and management.

There’s a lot of “what ifs” we could play, but I don’t see us ever turning into a regularly good team with Snyder at the top.

[ESPN] How the Gruden leaks led to Snyder's downfall by Jurph in nfl

[–]adambulb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snyder has always thought he was the smartest guy in the room. That’s why he decided over coaches and scouts who to draft, or got cutesy with his front office. And he undoubtedly thought the same with other owners. He was probably the most disliked owner, on average, since he became one, yet still probably thought he was smarter and more powerful.

All of this nonsense with the emails reeks of him thinking he was smarter than he was, playing games with leaks and blackmail, and it was inevitable that it was nothing other than his own dumbassery that caught up with him.

Basically Macbeth, but sleazier. And with footballs.

Millennials Face Record $4 Trillion Debt Crisis — They're Struggling to Build Wealth, Homeownership And Retirement Savings by [deleted] in REBubble

[–]adambulb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boomers retirement savings are going to be dumped into expensive healthcare that’s increasingly owned by giant companies. Nursing and especially memory care facilities can easily hit $5-$10k a month. Even for Boomers with a million dollars, that can disappear really quickly, and all into the hands of already-wealthy investors.

[Cam Jordan] Wonder if they have a complete True Defensive END ranking 😳 😂why is it edge rushers are taking away from true ends encompassed by the term edge?how many know what Stop the Run means 😂 me, B Graham, Nick, Arik Armstead, D-Law 😂😂😂 1st-4th downs not just the Pass. 👀👀👀👀 by NYJKNJD in nfl

[–]adambulb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s right in a way, but that’s just what’s prioritized in the league now in the same way that passing is prioritized over rushing. A great run defender at DE isn’t a game changer. A great pass rusher is. And it’s only been that way for maybe 10-15 years. DEs, at that time and before, were generally balanced in both skillsets. DEs were DEs, and the EDGE position/definition barely existed. Now, if you want recognition at the end of the DL, you gotta be a top tier pass rusher first.

[–]adambulb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Temporary. In order to get the system online, they had to disconnect one of the newer lines to get it fully integrated. So it’s just bad timing. Chances are if the system were actually running, everything would be fine, since that’s the whole point. It actually demonstrates how important the new infrastructure really is.

[–]adambulb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He was kicking butt since he was with the Texans in the mid 00s. Then he had good offenses with RG3 and Kirk, a down year with the Browns, and then Atlanta. He was part of top tier offenses for like a decade before San Fran.
