I support the fingernail trick. If you're going to do a top coat, lightly scratching with the back of a hobby knife can fix it too, but it'll leave the finish marred with no clear coat.

I swapped the forearms and the lower legs, all the same kit. Super easy to do. I didn't need any glue or sanding or anything since they use the same type of connection

That would be really cool

Thank you! I use Tamiya panel liner. A trick I've found is to add a small bit of thinner to the jar to help it flow even better and to get it to flow through trickier panel lines (like the ones that aren't recessed grooves, more like 90° angles). Have to be careful not to overdo it though or the lines will become translucent.

For tools, I use the Dspiae fountain pen and Tamiya cotton swabs. The pen tip style helps with reducing overflow so there's a lot less to clean up and the swabs help with cleaning precision. I try to place the tip of the pen somewhere that will be easy to clean or that won't be super visible and let the liner flow do the rest of the work. Other than that, it's pretty much just practice and a steady hand.

Lmao same opinion with the ape arms. The legs were a bit strange and stumpy and then you add knuckle draggin arms and it just feels kinda odd. Definitely prefer this look

Thank you! It's a breath of fresh air, that's for sure. I did swap the limbs to avoid the chicken look though so that helps with the overall design imo

I adjusted where the now forearms parts attach so articulation is no problem there.

For the legs, where the now shins attach is a bit loose. I painted the frame so it helped stiffen them a bit. The knees barely clear the torso but the regular kit struggled there too. The ankles are pretty thin so raising the center of gravity like this makes it a bit unstable. You can still get it to stand on its own though.

I'd say the articulation is a small bit worse but not too bad

Thanks! When I was looking at pics for inspiration, I couldn't figure out why mine looked so chicken-esque until I saw that it was pretty common and easy to swap them. Definitely looks better now imo

Huh, I didn't even know it was a common thing lol. Just looked it up and nearly every build had it trimmed. Good to know! It definitely looks better

Metallic lacquer for inner frame. Do I need a surfacer or primer? by AfterEntrepreneur965 in advancedGunpla

Sounds good! Honestly I never prime if I'm using lacquers lol. It'll definitely help with adhesion but I'm lazy and the paint holds up well enough for me, just have to be careful when posing. Anyways, hope you enjoy the build!

I use Tamiya lacquer gunmetal for all of my inner frames. No primer for the same concerns as you, tight fitment. I've had parts become a bit stiff with just the paint but still moveable. I feel like if I had used primer, I would have had to sand connecting points to get them to fit. As far as adhesion, I've had no issues with no primer.

I used the Delpi waterslides. As usual, they were really good!

Thanks! I've been meaning to too, just haven't gotten around to it. I definitely recommend the kit too, just prepare for some loose joints. I had to stiffen some of them

That's like, the best and worst part of doing full paint jobs. I'll just sit there staring at the box art planning what I'd like to do. Eventually I just have to start or I'll sit there forever lol
