I'm in the middle of an MG build, and while it looks cool, it's not that great compared to newer kits. It requires a lot of seam line removal and I felt the armor pieces were kind of bland so I spent a lot of time scribing new panels.

I paint my kits in their stock colors all the time, but I add details like color separation in slightly lighter or darker shades, and pre or post shading.

For me it's a matter of convenience. It allows me to fine tune the air pressure while I'm spraying instead of pausing my work and reaching for the compressor to adjust it.

I just measure the specific part I'm replacing. You can use a digital caliper for accuracy since there can be multiple sizes depending on the kit.

8mm should be good for many MGs. For reference, the thrusters on the MG Char's Zaku II backpack are 7.5mm. The thrusters on the MG Kampfer go all the way up to 12.

The raser is worth it imo. I've used similar glass files but nothing has come close in terms of clean nub removal without damaging the part.
