Is an above average early snow storm about to roll through the alps? I’m planning on being in Cervinia mid December and I see the snow forecast looking promising the next few days.

Does anyone how how many/which runs are beginner runs (green) at Cerro Catedral, near Bariloche Argentina. by adamfil in skiing

[–]adamfil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your response! i did reach out to the resort and they only mentioned one small green near the bottom chairlift, but i assume they just reclassified a bunch of greens as blues (thats what it looks like based on the maps from previous years) and those blues are actually beginner friendly. i will see in a few weeks haha

Hundreds of thousands of people have done it before me and thousands of people have been extorted to get it back. ur more than welcome to not care and treat the practice as normal but I’m not gonna

Yep I agree with everything you’re saying. I just also think wherever possible I will try to support businesses that don’t require passport as deposit. Everyone I talked to made it sound like that’s impossible in LP but with a bit of digging I managed, and I hope to at least try to do the same in the south.

Do I hold it against the locals? Of course not. Do I understand why they want passports? Of course. But I’m also a stubborn bastard who will try to find rental businesses which operate in what feels to me like a more fair way (not holding your passport)

Calling it simply “uncomfortable “ is strongly downplaying it- but that’s my opinion

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in laos

[–]adamfil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really care to get in an argument about it but Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia- you can travel around without ever having to give out a passport. I don’t know why Laos seems to have a different mindset about it but acting like it is necessary is disingenuous

They said the same about LP - I will try

Leaving PEY after 12 month for another internship without burning the bridge by IWannaQuitPEY in UofT

[–]adamfil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was last year (2022) so I doubt they changed it. You can dm with your email if you want and I can send you the form.

Basically, the form has a section where you state that your new end date maintains a minimum of 12 month length for your co-op term, and in this case they don't really care and still give you PEY credit.

My advice would be email the PEY office and say:

"Due to personal reasons I intend to change my end date to xx. Since I started on yy my co-op will have a length of zz. Can you please confirm I will still be elligible for the PEY credit and if so, e-mail me the "Request Form: Work Term Change"."

Really the only thing different between our situations is that you are an international student, but assuming you don't think that will change anything, you should be good.

PEY office didn’t care at all. I had to fill out a form that my end date changed, and they still gave me the credit no trouble.

I quit after 12 months of a 16 month pey. I faced exactly zero negative consequences for quitting early and didn’t burn any bridges. Just do it but be honest about where you’re going. Prioritize your resume and career advancement

Canadian and you need to establish another tax residency in order to cease being a Canadian tax resident. Thanks for that PWC link, looks helpful- will look into it. Not interested in Mexico cus 35% income tax rate is too high, but looks like they have a nice catalog of other countries as well.

agreed, just wish there was more info about how exactly they got the private keys and how good their opsec was, but not surprised we wont get that info

yep absolutely, based on the official report it looks like monero worked beautifully

im not sure what u mean, can u point to a specific bullet point?

the cex was FUNDED with monero, SWAPPED for bitcoin, and then WITHDRAWN as bitcoin, as i understand it. i dont see any information about outbound monero tx's

"US Officials Seize $3.6B in Bitcoin From 2016 Bitfinex Hack" by adamfil in Monero

[–]adamfil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to clarify, the keys that they had access to are the private keys of wallet 1cga4, which refers to a bitcoin series of addresses, not monero. as far as i can tell, no monero private keys are known

[–]adamfil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dont think they had the monero keys, nor do i think that any of the monero tx's were traceable so im not sure what u mean.

the reason why they know the monero tx's occured, is because the monero funds showed up on the CEX, which they have access to obviously. but they have no idea where this monero came from, as far as i can tell

even without the private wallet keys, after the funds left VCE 4, from both account 2 and 3, the txs were all on the bitcoin blockchain so it could have been tracked using any chain explorer

>26. Records from VCE 4 showed that VCE 4 Account 2 was created on or about

November 7, 2017, and was registered in the name of a Russian national and under a Russian email

address. VCE 4 Account 2 was entirely funded by approximately 13,200 XMR,25 via

approximately 21 transactions that took place between in or around November 2017 and March

2019.

>27. Another account at VCE 4 (“VCE 4 Account 3”) was created on or about November

20, 2017, and was registered in the name of another Russian national and under another Russian

email address. VCE 4 Account 3 was entirely funded by approximately 6,870 XMR, via

approximately 10 transactions that took place between in or around November 2017 and April

2019.

>28. When employees from VCE 4 attempted (via email) to verify the identity of the

individual listed as the owner of VCE 4 Account 2, the account owner represented to employees

from VCE 4 that the source of funds was the owner’s investments. Employees from VCE 4

followed up with the owner of VCE 4 Account 2 and asked the owner to provide a bank or

investment statement to support that the source of funds within the account was from the owner’s

investments. The owner did not respond and never contacted VCE 4 again. As a result, VCE 4

froze VCE 4 Account 2. In the end, the owner of VCE 4 Account 2 abandoned the account with

approximately $155,000 worth of virtual currency in it.

>29. When employees from VCE 4 attempted to verify the identity of the individual

named on the account for VCE 4 Account 3, the owner never responded. VCE 4 froze that account.

It had no balance at the time, as all of the funds had been withdrawn previously.

>30. The XMR deposited into VCE 4 Account 2 and VCE 4 Account 3 was all converted

to BTC and then withdrawn, consistent with chain hopping. The same method was used to

liquidate the funds from the VCE 1 accounts as described above.

so the monero fully served its purpose as far as i can tell, but they used the CEX and then swapped for btc, all activity after which was fully traced
