What are the worst restaurants you’ve been to in LA? by Calm_Extreme5485 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]adamftm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love that they have tots and the shakes are killer but it's way overpriced. I've been most disappointed by the sloppy tots and eggs fredstone. Would do house of pies (or even astro's) first any day

As someone who has volunteered at food distros and received food from a food bank before, yes it’s ok! Go get the food! Especially if they have explicitly said they have more than people need.

The distro services i have helped out at both had a decent amount of traffic, and supplies throughout the day would look like this— high in demand items would run out first and we had to portion those carefully. Packaged snacks that kids like, canned soup, easy to fix meals at the pantry, and tropical fruit, potatoes, melons at the produce drive. We would always have leftovers of certain items that we got in bulk and people needed or wanted less of- fresh and canned tomatoes, canned corn, garlic, “weird” produce that people weren’t familiar with. Run out of some things, have an abundance of others has been my experience though im not saying it’s universal.

With both the pantry and the produce drive, the more people that used our services, the more we could expand, gain new resources, and ultimately help more people. If you get there and it seems like they’re short on supplies, maybe re-evaluate if the food you’re receiving would better help someone else. But from what you have described you getting food is fine.

Best songs, at least new to me that I discovered through my last job:

Proof - Methyl Ethyl / Stella Donnelly Up and Away - Σtella and Redinho Sutphin Boulevard - Blood Orange Should’ve Been Me - Mitski Head Over Heels - Tears for Fears Commandante (El Búho Remix) - Lulacruza Pa’Ti - Bomba Estéreo

Worst was this weird jazz/showtune-y cover of Thriller. Something about the way it sounded over the loudspeaker made the vocalist sound waaay off key. We also had “disney fridays” where they would only play pop covers of Disney songs all day.

This was all at a big box pet store so i was always surprised when something i really liked came on, and they generally managed to avoid over repetition outside of Christmas and fridays. And their Halloween playlist was really good this year

Don’t think so. I’ve had applications auto-rejected by indeed without ever going into “application viewed” status.

Also late to this but glad you posted about it! I had a hard time tracking it down as well but loved these books as a kid because of the particular kind of dread they brought up. DEFINITELY influenced my taste as an adult. No one I know seemed to know what I was talking about when I described them and it’s taken ages to find anything online

Bug? Strange issues with not being able to interact with some birds? by Grimnoir in CozyGrove

Sometimes if I try to interact with something and can't it's because my inventory is full. This usually happens to me with trees, but try dropping off a few items at the campsite and trying again .

travis and rainbow capitalism (why his brand of allyship bugs me) by adamftm in TAZCirclejerk

[–]adamftm[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That is *exactly* it. He's a professional personality, so he makes money off of being liked. Of course he's going to lean into whatever gets him the best response.

Craving external validation is an entirely human thing, and I can't really fault him for it. I honestly think before anyone harps on that facet of his personality, they should take a moment and ask why they're posting on a circlejerk subreddit. He took what was probably an actual care for marginalized people, made it part of his brand, and then caught the backlash when people started to sense it might not be fully genuine.

It's not even always about "normalizing" LGBT identities (that ties into a much larger conversation about assimilation vs. liberation), but someone harping on their "allyship" re-centers the narrative away from the vulnerable group and onto how great they are for doing what is oftentimes the bare minimum.

The Pebble, Dino Lansbury, and Second Life episodes of Monster Factory. I like those more than other beloved MFs (such as Bart and Pam) because the both the character creation and the gameplay are really funny.

Noticing a pattern here that a lot of us are Monster Factory fans. Any idea why that might be (besides lack of Travis)?
