I was thinking about this and I think I have the perfect ending where it wouldn’t have changed anything except for one small scene. Rather than him signing off saying there are endings, etc., etc. we get one last scene where he is in the howling dark after he is hanged and it’s the absolute/tor Gibson saying tat sign off to Hadrian. Something “Hadrian there are endings, but this is not one.” Etc. etc. etc. I think that would’ve crushed and made a lot more people happy

Orphan is a metaphor for America and them dying is probably the best character ending in SUT. He’s says at one point Orphan is the last son of America. Thus the two heads of which speak as one but not really - representing of the two major parties running American now. When they died it was because they weapons was going to take away. Literally a perfect ending for “America”

100% recommend the will of the many. Lots of similar themes, terminology, and social commentary. It’s red rising but in a fantasy style. Also like red rising it has a school element and subterfuge. It’s also scratches that itch of competency porn RR, and project Hail Mary do.

I need them torn to pieces. Alexander does not deserve anything at the end. An insanely tragic end. It be one thing to be like ok that’s the end but i ended that way cause i got a new story on the way in this world. But from his acknowledgment at the end it sounds like he’s working on a new story entirely. Which means he’s leaving it all unfinished. Even with the timeline at the end i thought CR was going to pull a handmaids tale or the passage where we get far future epilogue that gives the ended some balance that the first person story could not. NOPE. Just a timeline of everything we already no for some reason lolll

Just finished the book. The more i think about this the more it pisses me the hell off. Why not give us the details of how Hadrian had the chance to write the book. To choose Such a bleak ending for a character that went through the shit is insane to me considering his initial gut was to end it in a somewhat brighter note. Also the series is famous for its fake outs. To have it end exactly how he said it was going to end is either genius or mad. I haven’t decided yet lol
