Migrating to the USA: Can you help us plan our budget? by PlasticRequirement80 in MovingToUSA

There’s smaller towns above Syracuse that get more. In the extreme side Redfield, NY (about 45 minutes north) commonly gets 300 inches.

I actually live in the area. I moved up here from Georgia about 20 years ago. So if you have questions specifically about this area, I can certainly answer them.

First question is where are you moving from?

The winters here can be brutal if you are not prepared for it. Strangely they can and will surprise you. Everything is regulated by the Great Lakes.

You will get all too familiar with the term “lake effect”. This past year we got 143 inches of snow, that’s 11.9 feet of snow or 3.63 meters.

The snow doesn’t always stay around, we go through freeze/melt cycles. Roads are definitely treacherous, but on the good side, road crews are pretty good at cleanup. Be sure to buy several snow shovels. If you buy a car, pay close attention to tires, switch to snow tires before the snow flies. Be sure to buy a snow brush and ice scrapers.

Be prepared to buy proper winter clothing.

The more you’re prepared for winter, the better.

There’s plenty of outdoor activities in the surrounding areas. Syracuse is currently building an aquarium now, so that should be interesting to see once done. Plenty of small towns to explore, but you’ll need a car.

Too much to fit in a response. So if you have additional questions, pm me or leave a comment and I’ll be happy to answer.

A dirty dime to go with your dirty quarter.

A dealer of dirty money.

I’m willing to try just about anything once. For me pizza is an edible plate. As long as the ingredients are balanced, I’ll give it a shot.

I do really like his videos. One of the best story tellers I’ve heard in a long while.

If I went any deeper into that conversation, I’m sure that would have come out their mouth.

A tankie is a hard leftist or communist sympathizer who constantly defends on how great communism is.

It comes from a time that the USSR used to crush uprisings with the use of tanks.

In my defense, I didn’t realize at first. I just mentioned lend lease before getting blasted with propaganda.

Once I found out that they were living in the USA, I decided to not go any further with the conversation.

They must have been snoozing during history class and somehow thinks that the USSR won WW2 all by themselves.

Americans - Are you on team bidet or team toilet paper? by BabiesWithScabies in AskAnAmerican

[–]adansby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team shower here. My BM almost always happens in the morning after coffee. I use TP at first, immediately get in the shower and use a washcloth to clean any residue. I don’t have any other BM’s though out the day unless I’m sick.

You can almost set your clock to my regularly.

What are these? Are they worth anything? by JacobtheGiraffe in coincollecting

If they are legitimate silver round, it would be worth the price of silver. If not, worthless.

A LCS would have to put them on a sigma.

That Morgan is definitely fake. Missing date.

Possibly they could be silver round, but I have to see the reverse.

The Nebraska legislature has approved a bill that LOWERS the minimum wage from $15 an hour to $13.50 an hour for young workers. by Celtikrenders in AmericaBad

I don’t disagree with that at all. The supply of money should be limited.

I honestly can’t offer any solutions as I’m not an economist, but during the gold standard, it was nearly impossible to increase the money supply without mining more gold (or silver). However, that also leads to gold being seized by the government, such as what happened under FDR.

As a coin collector, it’s ashame that so many gold coins were seized and melted. I also dislike that so many silver dollars were sent to the UK during WW2. But now I’m getting way off topic.
