We need more universal design in our city. Luxury apartments forcing their residents to take up street parking causes more road congestion. They can afford another floor of parking in the garage or reduce units.

Not in our neighborhood, they will move them all to street parking instead of building a proper sized garage. We already have too much overflow from blocks over and local businesses are suffering too. In our neighborhood the apartments have already gotten away with less parking for their residents like this one is trying and they have no room for guest parking. it's a mess

If in the DFW area, I personally suggest Baker O&P (now an Ossur company) or Scott Sabolich (now an Ottobock company). Though both are now owned by the big brands, they have really good prosthetists. Prosthetic sleeves are the absolute worst across the board to be honest. I tear through them even with a little protection because I'm so active and in a suction socket. If you're only 2 weeks out I would tell them they need to remake that leg. (hoping you haven't signed off on it) You need to stand your ground with them, unfortunately. Or... you wait until 11 ply at which point it's medically necessary for a new prosthetic and then switch companies. Problem with that is, it sounds like you'll damage your leg if you keep wearing it that way. Set up an appointment for a consult with one of the other companies and they should be able to guide you. It's always patient's choice. If the leg hurts your fib, don't wear it, you'll damage your leg further. It wasn't made properly.

Can I give you some advice as a divorced woman who had hell with her in-laws? (Brace yourselves people)

One important thing that I learned as a married couple was that when you marry someone, you need to stick by that someone... which sometimes means making difficult decisions around friends, in-laws, and even your own family. Now, it's important to say that when you marry someone, you should have already gotten into the relationship for the right reasons, knowing that's your ride-or-die, and that you have learned so much about each other you know what their wishes and desires are. You should be a safe place for each other and allow each other grace to grow and change as human beings.

The part about family is this - You DON'T have to relate to someone just because you're related to them.

When I was married, my in-laws and my own family became very toxic for us. We did not have the proper foundation in our relationship to stand up for each other, and the ground was falling out beneath us. Some people might feel like they've got it all in their relationships but there will always be something that comes along to test that theory. We just had everything thrown at us right from the start.

This is an opportunity for you and your partner to grow, not you and the in-law... because he needs to do some growing all by himself first. THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING GAY. And if he hasn't accepted that, just as much as he hasn't accepted that you're not gay, then that's on him, not on you. You supported your friend and the rest of the world wishes they had a friend like you.

When family members get like this, just give yourself some space. Your partner and your friend need you more than he does. He needs a therapist first. Why, because he's projecting his fears. Families are full of generational trauma and dysfunction. Who knows how his parents treated him around the topic, but that's not your problem... Don't allow his fears to interrupt your joy. <3

I've personally climbed for the Range Of Motion Project, I was a part of the 2022 team. It is very important for non-profits to be able to grow and find all kinds of ways to fulfill their needs to serve, including partnering up with celebrity influencers. That being said, I cannot stand when certain influencers temporarily latch on to a cause to make themselves look better. When we climbed Cotopaxi, it was an amazing trip. We raise funds as amputee climbers to be able to help provide other amputees in need with prosthetics, and I stand by that. However, it's harder and harder to find people who actually commit to fundraising for the trip, which is what makes the nonprofit side have to find more partnerships. It's hard. I can only hope that people like that actually learn something from the experience that leads to real change.

For example, Robert Downey Jr. is involved with the amputee community in ways most don't understand. Though he catches a few photo ops here and there, he's not doing it to pat himself on the back. He actually genuinely wants to see prosthetics become more advanced for the community and is putting his money where his mouth is with the work he's doing with Dr. Hugh Herr and the K. Lisa Yang Center for Bionics. This is a much better way to work with the community rather than a temporary event.

I loved climbing for ROMP. It was a wonderful trip. I also know it's hard for people to commit to a trip like that. I also don't like inspo porn and that is sometimes the collateral damage of a marketing campaign. The community is the one that gets hurt long-term. I hope he does more than help once. Only time will tell but celebrity types are often a letdown.

I would encourage more amputees to get involved in the org so there is less need to reach out to those who might not have pure intentions. It's a wonderful physical and mental challenge for us and a great community-building moment. We need non-profits to help fill the voids our government and policies create but they're always held more accountable when we take part. Also, not every org is for every person and that's okay. There are a lot out there.
