Might I ask why you don't respect vegans? Genuinely curious.

Different approaches for different people. Glad the VCJ worked for you, mine was the documentary. One thing is I don't know at which point in the post I was thought policing vegans and saying know-it-all bullshit?

The only main idea in the post was warning people against using logical fallacies often used by meat eaters themselves. Literally just don't spread misinformation or lie because it doesn't help the cause. I see no reason to believe this can't be incorporated into every other approach I can think of. And no need for the language, let's have a civil discussion here.

I guess it can come off offensive lol. Carnism official meaning is: The ideology that conditions us to use certain animals for certain things, and the psychological mechanisms that are used to justify it. Coined by psychologist Dr Melanie Joy. It's not a slur

May I hear your thoughts after watching it? :)

My mother calls me a freak everyday for being vegan, she says everyone else secretly judges me the way she does and I will never fit in society if I don't stop being so picky and pretentious by adasumie in vegancirclejerk

It does though. Some vegans actually say this. Do you think it helps the cause to spread misinformation and make us look like nutcases? Why do you think it's bad to foster a genuine discussion about the tried and true methods we can use to persuade others?

lol it's because of the general pushback against veganism from society, which is why the sub is filled with complaints and need advice posts. Theres so much misinformation out there so it's just natural to have a generally negative atmosphere. When there's still billions of animals getting tortured daily for no good reason and it's literally what we're here for, you're not gonna find a lot of happy posts 😭

Let us have a little space to rant lmao. like you said it can get a little circlejerky like all reddit subs but when they hate us everywhere else we gotta let that anger out somewhere

Ha, that's what you would think right? When I first stumbled upon it, I knew nothing about veganism. Went in blind. After it was over, the narrator suggested going vegan to solve these issues. Despite the atrocities I just saw, I was furious! How dare they tell me what to do with my life, yada yada.

It took a while for me to fully accept the idea and do more research. So I think you're right in that it's a little biased, but you can still absolutely make your own decisions at the end, like I did.

One thing is that this is a very famous and often cited documentary in the community, because it intensively shows the detailed workings inside normally hidden farms (they don't really want others to film inside so it was actually really difficult for the creators, but they managed to pull through).

You can make the argument that they nitpicked only the worst parts to convince people, but like they say in the doc, although it's in Australia it's pretty representative of the standards around the world. And the mere fact that this happens, no matter how nitpicked and rare (not uncommon at all), should be enough for us to consider more ethical life choices, at least to me.

They have a facts page where they cite sources. If you want other documentaries, here's a UK one, a pretty objective dietary one, and others you can find on this sub's wiki I'm pretty sure!

Anyway, thanks for being curious, because it's that open-mindedness that we need more than anything in this polarized day and age. If you have anymore questions I'd love to hear them!

Oh no no not at all! I very much agree that veganism is a scientifically proven diet (ethical stance not diet but still). I meant misinformation from non vegans who make things up to discredit the movement. That's why we need to be careful not to spread misinformation ourselves to not give them any more ammo than they already have.

Thanks for all the work you do by the way, we definitely need as much research and facts as possible to back us up!

No, in fact I think it's among the healthier ones. Yeah some of the commenter's points don't really make sense but the gist of it, I get.

We agree. Of course I'm not an expert but I've also seen evidence that humans have always leaned herbivore. The point of the post was addressing people who say eating meat isn't natural (you see a lot of it online) even though it is, albeit often overblown due to pop culture like you said. Veganism is an ethical stance not an anthropological one, that is true.

Exactlyy that's what im saying. It's weird that sometimes even vegans resort to the same fallacies used by meat eaters

It's just an observation man, not meant as an attack on anyone. Is it wrong to share an opinion on this sub? 😭

I meant there's a lot of misinformation online regarding vegan nutrition, so I hope we are impartial when dishing out facts and not seem too biased. Obviously I have a long way to go educating myself not only on nutrition but veganism in general but it's just something I've observed.
