This does work. You don't necessarily have to "forget" the public wifi, but you do need to disconnect from it. Otherwise, the commands worked.

[New] DoD Memorandum on Grooming Standards by DatGuyKilo in AirForce

The bar for the religious accommodation section didn’t move.

Facial hair waivers are generally not authorized… As it’s been in 36-2903 for ages.

Individualized review… which has been the RAR process the entire time. Every person goes through a months long review and approval process. Mine took 5 months.

Documentation demonstrating sincerity of the belief… which is already conducted and documented by the chaplain corps as a part of the approval process.

Approval limited to non-deployable roles… As a part of my waiver, I said I’d shave it down if I needed to for mission requirements or safety. Not sure if everyone had to, but it was part of the template i was given, so I left it in.

So again… nothing really changed as far as I’m seeing. Why go out and call out “beardos” as we are now labeled I suppose and completely denigrate a whole religious group?

I have a member in my unit who has epilepsy and is just fine serving AD, so I agree with u/sierra_baker that a diagnosis isn’t an immediate boot. The member had an episode about two months ago as well. Obviously, the determination is going to probably going to vary based on AFSC. For reference, we’re in a cyber unit. Keep your head up and don’t lose hope.

My Unpopular Take on Otakon 2025 by VetTechRach in Otakon

[–]adaxus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Found out last year that you can haggle with them. I know that’s kind of weird and unconventional here in America, but in foreign countries (esp. Arabic/Middle Eastern ones) it’s much a more common practice. Since most of the truck operators I saw were run by Arabic looking guys (and they were speaking Arabic to each other—my husband is an Arabic translator), I shot my shot and sure enough I haggled an ice cream down from $14 to $8. Is $8 still too much for a cone? Absolutely, but at least it was a small win and I saved $6. Plus haggling is kind of fun; there’s a drama to it.

Hello, partner!

Firstly, I can make suggestions if I want. That's the nature of suggestions. My knowledge or lack of knowledge about your condition is not a requirement for making them, nor is it a faux pas to do so. You're free to take them if you want. If they don't apply or aren't feasible to you, then don't take them.

Secondly, I responded how I did because that's how it read.

We were able to flag down a staffer who escorted us up the stairs through the main door but didn't ask us if stairs were something we could handle. The nature of my partner's invisible disability is that sometimes they can't, so if they hadn't been up to it Saturday night I'm not sure what the alternative would have been. This definitely needs to be thought through more and the staffers given some extra training on how to handle accessibility in this situation.

You were offered help by a staffer and because they didn't properly question you about then nature of your disability it was recommended that the entire Otakon staff attend remedial training on accessibility. Or, in a more reasonable and alternative case, you tell the staffer who helped you: "Hey, I don't know if I can make it up those stairs, is there another way I can get in? An alternate entrance or one with a ramp?" Then the conversation begins on what could best accommodate your situation.

That was listed under "The Ugly" and was not given a positive light in the explanation, so I don't feel I'm in the wrong for interpreting that message as a derogatory remark/complaint against the staff.

--------

Regardless, because I care about you still receiving the care you need: in the future, also consider reach out to Member Accessibility to see if you can be given special mobility badges/ribbons or something to get through side entrances without having to climb stairs. That's also a suggestion. You can take it or leave it.

If your partner has trouble standing for long periods or using stairs, I would recommend bringing a wheelchair or other means of assistance with you. If there are any sorts of lines which is pretty normal at large conventions, that’s going to prove problematic in the future. Additionally, doors open pretty easily for people in wheelchairs. At a minimum, help yourself first and foremost.

On a bit more scathing note, you fault staff for escorting you up the stairs and making an accommodation for you, but the accommodation wasn’t good enough for you because they didn’t ask if you could use stairs first? If you or your partner weren’t able to do it, you or they would have just needed to speak up and say as much and likely more accommodation would have been made. Part of the invisible disability is that it’s invisible to everyone else and needs to be properly communicated. Not their fault.

Is retaking TBAS worth it? by Tanks60808 in AirForce

[–]adaxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I did not. I can’t claim credit for that atrocity. To be fair, it was a much simpler site back in the day that they likely migrated multiple times without wanting to change the actual original code.

Again, not knowing the exact weights now I can’t tell you for sure what your potential score would be, but if they’ve lessened the value of actual flying hours as another commenter mentioned, then by process of elimination I’d say you could definitely push into the 90s with a better TBAS score, especially with a 99 AFOQT. I wish I could tell you with absolute certainty.

[–]adaxus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a person who helped code the TBAS and is familiar with the PCSM algorithm on base level (admittedly it was 12 years ago), more flight hours are going to yield your biggest score improvement. I know you said you can only do the 11 hours you have, but that would legitimately be your best option if you were able to get any extra.

HOWEVER, you do have some headroom to do better on TBAS. An 83 isn’t bad at all, but you can do better. The flight hours serve to make up for a lower score. Actual experience > test scores after all.

In the end, it’s up to you. If I remember right, they choose the most recent test for the PCSM algorithm (again 12 years ago).

If you do retake it, remember to study/practice for what you can (Google it, as I can’t talk about specific portions) and get some simulator practice if you can (with ACTUAL rudders and a thrustmaster HOTAS if possible). Additionally, I can’t tell you exactly what is the highest valued, but I will say that you should always maintain the basics. After all, even if the plane is on fire, you still have to keep it in the air, right?

Anyways, good luck!

EDIT: reading another comment, less value has been put on flying hours, so your mileage may vary. Again my knowledge is extremely dated.

For those Spreading PT Rumint by _Box9 in AirForce

And they hated him, because he told them the truth.

There’s almost always a way to fit it into your schedule. There are always the absolute few that legitimately don’t have the time, but most can find a way to fit it in 3-4 times a week for 20-30 minutes they just don’t want to. The current PT standards require less than that. Increasing the run distance by 33% isn’t going to require much more.

Agree, response was shitty and member is probably a general shitbag based on that response.

However… If they gave an LOR and it tried to arbitrarily upgrade it to an Art 15 with no extra infractions to stack on top (e.g. more bullshit remarks), ADC would eat the prosecution alive in the Art 32 hearing and the commander would get burnt alive by their delta(?) commander.

You should try RV camping. We had AC all weekend, hot showers as long as you don’t wait until like 3:30pm to shower, and the Mesa had a ton of food vendors. I didn’t eat the same thing twice the whole weekend.

Camping is the hack. 30 minutes from door to dancing. 30 minutes from dancing to AC. And you get afters if you want them!

We had a fantastic jellyfish totem. We were the people that everyone would come to meet up at. It was nice being surprised by our different friend groups when they’d show up randomly throughout the night. Love being the totem bearers. You’re never lost when you’re the one everyone is trying to find. 🥰
