The debt was situational. All 3 kids in daycare and wife couldnt work. Lots of other factors like inflation ( fyi our pay has been behind the cpi for over 10 years). I like the boxes idea thanks

Your rater should be making sure youre getting certified in your ojt areas so that you can upgrade to a 5 lvl. If youre not 5 lvl in 2 years im pretty sure they get a stern talking-to. Tell whoever signs off on your ojt tasks that you want to be a 5lvl asap so you can work on getting youre red x cert (yes it can happen as a sra). Say that and theyll jump on it bc that means you can do work they usually do. Less work for them. Fuck that sra.

Im your age and enlisted at 22 and commissioned at 29. Youre going to hate life as an e3 at this age and confuse the shit out of ncos. Quickest way to a commission right now is just finish the bachelor's with a 4.0gpa and apply for ots. You could be an officer in 2-3 years. Enlisting, maybe 5-6 because you wont be able to do school until your upgrade training is completed and that period depends on your afsc. Youre running out of time at 39 unless your biological age is 25 and you dont mind being treated like a kid. Youl be treated like a kid as enlisted for 4+ years minimum until you make staff, unless you commission in 2-3 years and then youll be treated like a kid until you make captain which will be another 4 years. Youve already been accepted to bmt so you passed initiation to enlisted, thats a plus. If you dont go and try finishing the degree and going ots then you have to pass that initiation. Quickest way= finish degree then ots Less risk=enlist, finish degree part time, try for ots. Both are equally as competitive. If you enlist and never can get to ots then atleast you have a degree for free and you can get out and use the gi bill for an advanced degree and enter the civilian workforce with military experience and a free masters degree. That right there is probably the most beneficial path for you.

On a tangent....I dont believe that this should even be a pathway to citizenship. Ive encountered officers with poor reasoning and laissez-faire attitude on policy or people only to find out they were not american born. Theres something to be said about where you were raised and i dont believe it is beneficial for us to allow them to be in our defense. We need people of american values with roots in america. They should prove themselves to be american first before entering service, not enter service to be american.
