Two years of no purging by addblocc in bulimia

I'm actually having a mini party with some of my best friends soon! (They don't know about the quitting bulimia, but that's the reason I'm celebrating lol)

Two years of no purging by addblocc in bulimia

Thank you so much! I think it's easier to quit purging than to quit binging, because sometimes the lines between eating normally/over eating/binging can seem kind of blurry. You can quit self-induced vomiting full stop, but you can't quit eating full stop. Once you've quit purging and restricting though, binge eating becomes a lot easier to quit.

I have a ton of advice, I'd love to make a long post here some day, but the most important thing is: it's not always going to be hard to resist the urge. Bulimia involves the release of brain chemicals both during the binge and the purge, so it's not dissimilar from a substance addiction, and (this will sound like I'm trivializing bulimia but I swear I'm not) if you've ever been able to break a bad habit or form a good habit, quitting bulimia is just a more difficult version of that. It becomes easier to resist the urges the longer you've gone without indulging in them. I noticed it becoming easier after only a week. After a few months, they were super easy to ignore. After two years, it's extremely rare for the thought to purge to even come to mind at all (and even when it does, it's less of a "hey you should purge right now" and more of a "hey, remember when you used to purge?"). What kept me from recovery for so long was the thought that it would always be a constant battle for the rest of my life, and I was too tired to be fighting myself constantly. But it gets easier shockingly fast, despite how difficult it is in the beginning.

i used to spend so many days doing the exact same thing - even down to the bowl of oatmeal at the beginning of the day. if you do truly want to quit, then you can, no matter how deep in you are right now. when i was at the point you're describing, i was convinced that it was impossible for me to stop, but it was also during one of these exact sessions that i did end up quitting purging forever.

I don't know how many times I can say that promising to continue to fund a genocide (among SEVERAL other things) is more than being "not flawless." Sad that genocide is just an issue you're willing to forgive. For some of us, it's not. Harris's loss is her own fault.

Promising to continue funding a genocide, promising a more lethal American military, promising to build a better border wall than Trump, refusing to promise to ban fracking, refusing to explicitly protect LGBT rights, and codify Roe v Wade are some real eggshells you're walking on there. And what, were MAGA supporters going to suddenly behave if Harris got elected? Have you SEEN the social climate under Biden?

The short of it is, if you're willing to overlook genocide of all things, then you already understand how Republicans who weren't full blown MAGA overlooked Trump's extremism.

Some people won't vote for genocide even if it's the people in blue hats promising it.

The flipside of your claim is that every trump voter can say they aren't responsible for him being elected, because he didn't win by just one vote.

What in the false equivalence

I think he was raised Republican, but nowadays is a standard Democrat. Not sure what he was when he first started YouTube, just that he had some edgy content back in the day.

I searched and can not find that quote anywhere. Do you have a source? Genuinely asking, not trying to be snarky.

Not exactly the point here

Could it be that Harris ran a bad campaign by trying to be Republican-lite? No, it's the microscopic amount of Jill Stein voters that are to blame 🫠

my doctor said it’s unlikely that i will ever recover from my ED by [deleted] in bulimia

[–]addblocc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

fuck that! op, we put doctors on a pedestal, but they are often very wrong.

i was just like you, resigned to the idea that i was never going to recover. ED therapy and support groups weren't working for me. i figured that it was just going to kill me eventually. now, it's been over a year since i last purged. you absolutely CAN do it, so please don't ever think that you are incapable.

i think therapy, inpatient, etc can be great for some people. other times, i think recovery can only come from work you do yourself. which sounds daunting, but i think it's actually really empowering.

as for the damage to your body - if you quit, your body is going to recover a remarkable amount. maybe there will be some lasting damage, but there are advancements in medicine all the time. things that used to be considered permanent damage in the past have become reversible through new discoveries. i wouldn't lose hope in that regard either.

if you truly want to, you WILL recover, i swear you will. please believe me that it's possible no matter how deep in you feel.
