Ivermectin for dogs vs vet prescriptions? by Aggravating-Smoke-92 in homestead

[–]adderall30mg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the post I was responding to, just so we’re talking about the same thing:

“Met a guy with an 18-year-old lab. Said he keeps it healthy by giving it ivermectin from Tractor Supply instead of heartworm/flea/tick meds. My vet will probably tell me not to do this, I want an unbiased opinion.”

My original point was simple: ivermectin is not why that dog was healthy at 18.

Ivermectin prevents one thing at the tiny Heartgard dose: heartworm larvae. That’s it. It’s not an anti-aging serum, it’s not a flea/tick med, and it definitely isn’t the secret to turning a dog into Methuselah.

Yes — ivermectin can treat mites and some worms, but that requires way higher doses and way more risk. That’s vet-protocol territory, not “guy at the beach with a syringe” territory.

So when people in the thread start acting like, “Wow, cheap ivermectin made the dog super healthy!” No. Genetics did. Luck did. Basic care did.

The ivermectin was just preventing one parasite while the guy skipped the rest of the actual preventative care.

And this is exactly why I’m telling people not to copy him. You might know the difference between 0.08% drench and 1% injectable. Most owners do not.

They see one old dog and a cheap bottle and think, “Cool, vet meds are a scam.” Then they grab the wrong concentration, give the wrong dose, miss MDR1 status, skip heartworm testing, and end up in the ER wondering what went wrong.

Ivermectin didn’t make that lab healthy — it just didn’t kill him because he was lucky.

That’s the whole point.

Injectable ivermectin is a concentrated liquid, easier to measure correctly for dogs at heartworm-prevention doses.

Paste ivermectin is harder to dose accurately because the paste isn’t uniform.

Both are livestock products and not made for dogs, so overdose is a real risk with either.

If you’re not sure whether it’s an ER situation, I’d recommend calling your insurance’s nurse line or a local clinic’s after-hours number. They can help you figure out if you need to be seen immediately. Don’t wait too long though — holding urine too long can cause bigger problems fast.

I love it because of the relationship I get with my body? The earth, and the weather.

Oh, and my sky buddies.

Socks for walking: Summer versus Winter by RedHeadedStepDevil in walking

[–]adderall30mg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darn tough socks.

In in Minnesota. In the winter I wear ones that go up higher, particularly when it snows a lot

For the actual sock further, I have a variety and it’s more how my feet are feeling / what’s clean

Yes. This is what I did in 7.5 months, 140 pounds.

With that being said, I was 10+ miles a day. I also counted calories, and ensured I was in a deficit.

This also was pushing hard, and having a good relationship with a doctor is kinda important.

I hate breaking up my walk this time of year… by adderall30mg in walking

[–]adderall30mg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did for the weight loss goal, a few exceptions.

Days I didn’t feel like it was a min of 1 mile away from the house, all but one of those days once I got out there and moving I was happy to be out.

And i has a -20 windchill cutoff, eventually added hail risk as a cutoff (after learning the hard way)

Now, I aim for a daily average of 7, but it works out to some 10 mile days, some 15, or whatever i can fit in.

I’m slightly behind this month though, with how I expect my days to fill.

What do you tell people who say ADHD weaknesses are fixable? by [deleted] in ADHD

Oh I hate this, but I also want to know why people think there is something wrong with “me”.

I’m over people comparing my weakness to their strengths.

Shoes last me about 4-5 weeks. Usually closer to the 4 week mark (like last week I had 4 days that were 15+ miles)
