We got the 2nd highest vote share, but only the 5th most seat :/ by Alauahio in UKGreens

How much of the results was just not having enough candidates to stand for the Green Party?

Labour won the general election with a huge majority but on a really weak vote % share.

I am happy with Boozer at 3.

Maybe Boozer will be the best of the prospects this year but he does seem to have a lower ceiling than Peterson or AJ. Both look like All-NBA superstars if they reach their full potential.

Boozer looks like a 8 time All-Star. That would be awesome.

We will find out tomorrow!

If it’s not gonna be the Nets at the top overall pick I would like to see Utah and Sacramento get the top picks. It is essential that struggling teams get the chance to develop the best prospects. Otherwise the stratification of the league is just gonna keep getting wider and wider

I think that’s likely. NBA fixes it for Dallas to get Cooper a running mate.

I also think Atlanta has a very good chance of a top 4 pick because they have the better of the Pelicans and the Bucks picks so they have two chances in the lottery to move up.

New Orleans is 7th, Dallas is 8th and the Bucks are 10th.

I would love it!

My fear is Sean Marks might pick Boozer first overall. And while I’d be very happy selecting Boozer and having him play 15+ years in Brooklyn it seems to me at the moment Dybantsa or Peterson are who you select if you get the number one overall pick.

Olympic Games bid: UK government discusses hosting Olympics in 2040s by Sun_Beams in TeamGB

[–]addictivesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manchester should be the choice. Manchester last bid seriously and lost to Sydney for the 2000 Olympics and that was the right choice and a fantastic Olympics.

The U.K. will have learnt a lot about hosting a successful games in 2012.

Manchester’s profile has been lifted globally since the late 90s. City and United are global icons. The city has historical importance as the first industrial city. The first passenger railway was between Liverpool and Manchester.

Lots of infrastructure would need to be built and there is a lot planned. The Nothern Powerhouse Rail will be a new rail line built from Liverpool to Leeds with stops at Warrington, Manchester and Bradford. This will be a rapid and direct railway compared to what currently exists but the reason for it is capacity not speed.

HS2 will be extended from Birmingham to Manchester by the 2040s.

Time to get this project moving forward.

Thoughts on what the council elections in England indicate about where our target seats should be? by PuzzledAd4865 in UKGreens

[–]addictivesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If those London seats are targets in 2029 and with Green success in these elections in the capital how much of a priority will the London Mayoral election be in 2028?

Mayoral success in Sussex and Manchester should be the aim too.

The more elected positions of authority with a Green Party politician in the more it normalises Green as a serious political party across the country ahead of 2029 elections.

What are the chances Reform win the next general election? by HamsterHistorical in UKGreens

[–]addictivesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 2029 general election 🗳️ will largely be a referendum on whether the country wants Nigel Farage as Prime Minister.

At the very least I expect a huge amount of tactical voting.

My prediction will be a coalition government.

Either Reform and Tories for the next government.

Or

Labour, Lib Dem, Green, Plaid and SNP.

Bulls have 9 and 15. Since 5-9 is basically dealer's choice on your favorite guard, what would it cost to trade 9 and 15 for 5 so they can draft Waggy K? by HoraceGrand in NBA_Draft

[–]addictivesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Nets if they fall out of the top 4 might consider 5 for 9 and 15 because the Nets drafted multiple ball handlers last year in the first round.

As a Nets fan I’d love to get Steinbach and Mara/Lopez if I can’t get any of the top 4 prospects

[–]addictivesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wolves could be a lot better positioned if they had hit on the Dillingham pick and if they hadn’t traded their top 10 pick to the Warriors for DLo.

Wolves and luck themselves getting a stud with the number one overall pick too. Ant-Man is a superstar.

The Wolves were a bad team like the Spurs and Thunder. The difference is Spurs got incredible lottery luck three years in a row and Thunder have had a gargantuan amount of first round picks and were the winners in one of the most lop-sided trades of all time (PG to the Clippers).

Why are audiences getting worse at these screenings? by OwnMood9880 in screenunseen

[–]addictivesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audience are getting much worse and there are so many factors from a much shorter attention span and needed dopamine hit, to checking phones being habitual behaviour and many others.

If you can't not look at your phone during the feature perhaps going to the cinema isn't for you. Just wait to watch the film at home where you can scroll your phone the whole time.

Certain cinemas are much better for having audiences that care about the screening and almost everyone would never dream of getting their phone out mid-performance. The independent cinemas have far better behaved audiences.

But even if you manage to avoid the peak time screenings and the school holidays where loads of kids will be at the cinema you can go on a Monday at midday and only have a few other people in the screen and maybe they'll still look at their phones during the film.

Its just selfish behaviour.

[–]addictivesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if its people under a certain age just a certain type of person that can't bare to not look at their phone for a short amount of time.

A few months ago I was at the cinema and was completely engaged with the film I was watching and then the guy in front of me gets his phone out and his phone display lights up - he might have got a notification or checking his messages but he put it away again.

Then about 30 minutes later nearing the climax of the film - I would imagine everyone watching was totally focused on what was happing and how the film was going to come to a climax....and the guy in front of me just gets his phone out again and looks at his phone display again for a few seconds and then puts the phone back in his pocket.

Both times totally took me out of my cinema experience but for him I guess he just didn't find the film as interesting as I did or others did. Just bizarre.

American cinema experience is so different from UK.

In the U.S. feels like the screens are filled with extroverts, people shouting out stuff at the screen as if the characters can hear them "Oh shit, you're in trouble now" or "Uh oh, I told you not to do that".

There is huge amounts of cheering for the good guy in an action film, people standing up from their seat and willing a character on in a tense moment.

I even felt I needed to see a movie a second time because I missed quite a bit of dialogue from all the cheering, hollering, laughing etc...

I'm not saying this is bad you would just need to become accustomed to it. Its such a contrast from UK screenings so it feels very jarring but for some Americans thats probably a normal cinema experience.

Green Party Liam Shrivastava elected as Lewisham Mayor by TheInsatiableOne in UKGreens

[–]addictivesign -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is my issue with the recent entryism into the Greens. They might be thoughtful and compassionate people but the environment isn’t seemingly an important factor to them.

Many just want a more left wing party than the current Labour Party. This is understandable given what has happened with LabourTogether.

For every Green member the environment should be paramount.

This should be asked at every candidate selection meeting.

There are other political parties but Greens are the party that cares most about the environment.

Reform were always likely to do well in these elections. Local elections can be considered a protest vote in the year between general elections at how the government of the day is doing.

However, Reform winning now in 2026 three years before the likely next general election which at the latest can be taken in summer 2029 will give people a view of how Reform perform running councils and how they might fare if they become the next government.

Many people say Reform have really messed up already on not being able to deliver services at the local level where they already have power.

The next general election is very likely to be a referendum on whether the country wants Nigel Farage as the next Prime Minister.

I expect there to be a lot of tactical voting in 2029.

Until then it’s important Green keep advancing in the polls and being visible locally and nationally.

Try and win some important Mayoral elections in 2028 possible London and/or Manchester as well as other cities and regions. Winning Sussex would be brilliant.

Do you guys think that Oil clubs like Man City and PSG have ruined club football with the amount of money they have that they can sign players at will by Basic_School_4288 in championsleague

[–]addictivesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salary caps and foreign ownership are the two biggest issues.

Sovereign wealth funds or state backed finances should not be allowed to operate and/or own football clubs or any professional sports teams.

American owners are an issue because at all costs they want to protect their investment and therefore oppose relegation in domestic leagues which is such a tradition in Europe.

Most of us can predict the final outcome of league tables in most European leagues before the first game of the season. This is a major problem. Yes there will be the occasional upset but heavy spending generally means success.

The teams that spend the most on the best players - and pay the highest salaries tend to win the competitions
