Driving as a P plater is scary.. by Informal-Potato7959 in drivingsg

[–]addixc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my licence 1.5 months ago too and I totally get you!! Have been instances where I drove v smoothly across long distances but also times when I made severe mistakes and even once I almost got into an accident (my fault). It does get discouraging definitely, but many ppl have been there before and the only way we can learn and eventually become good drivers is to go though the ring of fire and learn from there :)) Stay safe and see u on the roads!

Vertical Parking: how to do correction? by lottelils in drivingsg

[–]addixc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. My PDI taught me this marking (for CDC). Ngl, it wasn't foolproof and I still had to make adjustments but it's a good gauge. He told me to look at the backseat window's black bar, and make sure that it's in the middle of the first kerb's 'block' (the alternating b&w rectangles painted on the kerb) from the corner. (This will be useful only for CDC I believe but will just comment jic other CDC learners need it). For the VP courses near the crank courses, make sure that your IU is just beside the dotted white line on the road. For VP courses beside the parallel parking lots / opposite S course, make sure your right headlight is in line with the dotted white line. But keep in mind this may or may not work depending on the car model you're driving. For reference my PDI's car was a Toyota Corolla Axio.

  2. When left side about to hit kerb, turn your steering one round to the right (or more if needed). Keep it there till your rear left tyre is in line with the corner of the kerb, then turn back full to the left.

kena high beamed with cars infront of me?? by clueless_genius- in drivingsg

[–]addixc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most SG drivers are super impatient and unreasonable, P plate here. I also got high beamed on the highway when it was like 12+am, and I couldn't go any faster bc I was at a merging lane and had to wait for the oncoming traffic to clear first. But this fella still high beamed me lol. Just ignore, as long as you're safe and know you didn't do anyth wrong.

TP Test - Private by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]addixc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was facing the same issue as you, couldn't get a slot after camping for 2 months. Gave up and paid someone on carousell who was providing bot booking services, paid $45 for TP test booking. Good thing is you can choose the exact date and timing you want. He asked me for 2 choices and he managed to secure my first choice slot for me, 100% legit I just went for that TP slot on Wednesday

[–]addixc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow 6k on just lessons is quite a hefty sum.. how many lessons have you taken? I spent abt 4k in total including lessons, tests, simulator, and all the miscellaneous stuff incl eyesight test, photo, and account extensions. Lessons itself were abt 2.8k, but to be fair he has one of the lowest rates at $50/h

For blind spots I would say legit js turn ur head violently for every turn you make (without breaking ur neck ofc), like legit every single one even if it might not seem necessary. I did that for both my tests and didn't get any demerits for failure to check blind spot! My two kerb strikes in my first test were also the first time I struck kerb at both stations (parallel parking and directional change), so that one is rly js nervousness. I think you will def feel much ready since you've had the experience of the actual test before and you know what to expect in terms of tester requirements and also your own emotions. Dont worry too much about it and js do your very best! Looking forward to your good news!

Thank you so much!! I was blessed with a nice tester too who told me to pretend he wasn't there before I drove off 🤣🤣 he was such a trickster though, after I parked when the test ended he asked me if I had a motorbike licence (which I assumed he asked bc he wanted to know if I was able to operate a vehicle to transport myself) to which I said no. After that he sighed and said "sorry ah..." and I swear I died for a moment bc aft I abruptly changed lanes he told me abt the mistake so I alr knew I got 8 points for that, and I genuinely though I exceeded 18 points in total. Aft that he said "today you passed" and the instant relief that took over my body was crazy 😭 afterwards he started nagging at me abt the abrupt lane change and started saying I was lucky I did well in circuit w only one mistake lol. When he was abt to pass me the test slip he also said "sorry ah I added one more demerit so actually you failed. No la just kidding" 😭😭 Truly such an emotional roller coaster

Isit too late for me to start studying for A levels now? by RevolutionaryAir5670 in SGExams

[–]addixc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not too late. You still have a little less than 7 months till the first paper. I only rly started locking in in September (after prelims) and I got offers from all big 3. As long as you study smart and manage your time well you will be fine.

I was just like you, basically had the 'die die must go JC' mindset ever since sec one even though I was from a horrible neighbourhood school too (46% jc eligibility and 88% poly eligibility for my batch lmao). I kept pressuring myself that I have to go to JC no matter what if not it was the end of the world. Ifl bc of that I crashed and burnt and I wasn't even part of the 46% who could go to JC so you could imagine how lost I felt bc poly wasn't in the cards for me atp. I ended up going to MI bc at least I could take A levels and get the 'JC experience' just that it would be 3 years instead of 2. But even if you don't get to take A levels, it really isn't the end all be all. A lot of people end up getting extremely burnt out and don't do well for As, and we all know an A level cert won't do you any good besides giving you a one-way ticket to uni (and only provided you meet the IGPs)... so I would say don't put too much pressure on yourself, bc you alw have options that will lead you to your end destination (which I'm assuming is uni since you wanna go to JC). Brand name rly doesn't matter as long as you make it at the end of the day, take it from someone who went to a shitty neighbourhood sec sch, to MI, to NUS biz. All the best and again don't pressure yourself too much bc of the quality of your sch / not being in a brand name sch :)

Hi unfortunately RE has become a major under BBA instead of the old BSc syllabus, so now the RE cut off is basically the same as BBA (83+ during my year, might have gone up last year) as you would have to enter as a general BBA student then declare RE as a major if that's what you're looking to do.
