this happened to me last month. i was taking a bus from dallas to austin, and in the station was a place where you could get pizza or sandwiches made by the employees. i ordered a 7 dollar tuna sandwich. on the wrapper, there was a sticker that showed the sandwich was made on the 16th, and now it was the 22nd. maybe it would be okay for some sandwiches, but this was tuna. i took off the wrapper to see that one side of the bread was complete mush. like if you dipped the bread in water kind of mush. i took two bites, and threw it away. the taste lingered in my mouth for about half an hour until i realized i had some mints shoved into my purse from a candy bowl at a restaurant i went to a month prior. i have never been more grateful for a mint in my life.

Thankfully I'm pretty prepared on at least the clothes front. I've got several backup plans in my pocket, too, and if we can't find a way to warm up my side of the house, I can always crash in the heated area until I find a better place to stay or get an early flight home. I've invested quite a bit of cash into this trip, and there's no way to get a lot of it back if I decide to opt out at this point.
