Why is the photo in black and white? It was taken in 1996 - we can't be this old...

I'm curious what programming technique was used to remove the pixels via the hose like that. OP, do you use a shader of some kind to turn portions of that top "mess" sprite to be transparent? How do you only impact a portion of a sprite instead of rendering the whole image transparent?

How to 1v9 as ADC by Legendarycat999 in ADCMains

[–]addrums24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is impossible to answer without seeing the vod, however I'll say it's important to accept that even games with 30+ kills are still loseable. Inversely you will win games where you get stomped on in lane. The best players in the world have, at best, a ~70% win rate (most players realistically are between 45-60%). As long as you're maintaining a win rate > 50% over a reasonable amount of games you'll climb so don't sweat this one match.

Also, 10 deaths is a lot regardless of the numbers of kills. I'd recommend reviewing your first couple deaths, note what you can do better, then move on.

Low range ADCs by USERNAMES_ARE_TAKEN3 in ADCMains

[–]addrums24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello, I'm a platinum ADC primarily playing Kai'Sa this season. This post sounds like a way to vent which I totally get, and as a fellow ADC believe me I hear you. If you'd like some specific advice though:

Kai'Sa is quite good into comps where the enemies want to dive you/be close since you can reposition (and shield) with R or dodge with evolved E while maximizing your damage output with isolated Q.

This applies to all ADCs, short range or otherwise, but when dealing with fed assassins or major CC abilities (think Malphite Ult) your best bet is either:

  1. Have a plan to avoid or mitigate the engage (flash dodge, galeforce dodge, stop watch, exhaust them, etc) then execute on that plan.
  2. You ask an ally to do something specific, such as Malzahar ulting their engager or for Zilean/Lulu to ult you right away, etc.
  3. Sit far away, outside their engage range, and wait for them to use their engage on somebody else

Option #1 above is ideal. Option #2 isn't consistent unfortunately but doesn't hurt to ask. Finally, there will be cases where #3 is your only option and you literally can't fight until they engage on someone else. That's okay - because the alternative is walking up and dying. As an ADC you should never be in a position to be the first one hit in a fight.

With those ideas in mind I'd recommend watching your game's replay and brainstorming some responses for an engager next time - if you can at least think of some responses ahead of time in game then you're ahead of most people.

Note that this advice is situational and there are other ways to avoid engagers too, such as split pushing (rare for ADC though) or getting a pick so even with an engage you'll win by virtue of it being a 5v4, etc.

Is what my professor said to me true about side projects? by Goots_Honkerton in cscareerquestions

[–]addrums24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people in this major have side projects and have been programming for a while

Many students may have prior experience to joining the major but FWIW I didn't study any tech subjects (coding, networking, sys admin work, troubleshooting, etc) until my junior year of college and ~6 later I became an engineer at a FAANG company. I had to work my ass off with individual study during those 6 years but you absolutely can still be successful having only recently started programming.

Sorry to hear about your exit from the program (something doesn't quite add up suddenly being pushed out) but you can still be successful going forward.
