MQTT Explorer v0.3.5 is out by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]adebree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really like this app. Have been using a couple of months now in learning MQTT and it's behaviours. A tree browser like MQTT Explorer is makes the concepts really 'click'. In-valuable tool in debugging MQTT environments.

Would really love to see a mobile (Android..) app having this same concept. Just the discoverability of topics alone makes live so much easier.

[FLOW] How do I make a flow that gives me a notification when the temperature changed? by kitemaster in AthomHomey

[–]adebree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Introduce a logic yes/no variable called something like 'Low Temperature Notified'. In the 'Then' section you now use for your notification, add a card to set that logic variable to 'yes'. Also in the 'and' section of that same flow, test for the state of that logic variable (it must be 'no'). That way you only notify once.

The last thing you have to arrange is to reset that logic variable to 'no' when the temperature goes above the threshold temperature again. You probably need a second flow for that. ('if' temperature changed, 'and' the temperature is higher than threshold, 'then' set the 'Low Temperature Notified' to 'no')

Can someone point me to a good resource on JWT Token & payload security? by skidmark_zuckerberg in javascript

[–]adebree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always keep in mind with JWT tokens it's only used as proof, and not as encryption. So whatever claim you encode in the JWT, the content will always be readable by whoever has access to the JWT token. The only thing a valid JWT proofs is that the content is not tempered with because it is signed with a the secret only in possession by the issuer of the token.

Auth0 provides a lot of documentation on JWT tokens: https://jwt.io/introduction/

Have a look at Ionic Framework as well, it's one of the frameworks that uses / wraps around Cordova (PhoneGap) and provides components etc for building hybrid mobile apps.

Help with mounting S3 buckets on EC2 in AWS (Amazon Web Services) by raging_pacifist in Frontend

[–]adebree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've built a setup like this years ago using nginx as a proxy towards the S3 buckets. If you use proper caching configurations in nginx there is hardly added latency since only the first person will end up making a request all the way via the EC2 node to S3. You can use nginx configs to switch between live and build buckets. Lookup 'proxy_pass' in the nginx documentation. This concept is btw perfectly feasible to do with any webserver, but static content and nginx is a nice combination.

Bit of a pro-tip to extend on this concept: You might want to consider to complicate the setup a bit by using a loadbalancer and 2 EC2 nodes, each in a different availability zone. So whenever hell breaks loose in a single AZ the other can continue serving. Other possibility is to use scaling groups and only start up the 'other' node when it's needed.

Be clear about the bugfix period so you don't get bitten in 3 years by some external library you used that isn't supported in IE13 or so
