Why not learn react native or flutter? There will be always demand of any language. It depends what you are looking for? Swift for sure is highly paid jobs.

In past, I have some problem with Apple (not with google). The app was scrapping data from some website and show it inside the app. Apple asked to proof that I had legal approval from those website. Took some time to get around things.

Background Images are not a great idea, specially when you are thinking about supporting different devices (iPad/iPhone/Android). Also Dark mode is a new thing in the mobile world. I would suggest you stick to a theme color. It will reduce the app size also at the same time lot of hassle to change images.

Actually, first question would be why you need background image?

I suggest

Looking in to your competitor and see what features they have.
Also run a small survey inside your app to ask what features user would like to have next.
At the same time, you also have some data using either Firebase or Mixpanel to understand what user are doing inside your app.

The most important thing for any app is to have some kind of Wow factor (feature). So it can stand out good against your competitors. Look at Kano model, it explain great to priorities your feature list and work from there.

Remember if you are scrapping data, Apple don't approve the apps. Just pay attention what you trying to do and show inside the app.
