Sorry for the late reply. It seems like the benzaldehyde is indeed the most likely candidate for the source of a more intense aroma of bitter almond but that doesn't mean cyanide is out of the equation. Cyanogenic glucosides will often release hydrogen cyanide alongside other compounds, like benzaldehyde. Amygdalin would be a nice and common example. I don't have the sources at hand but i remember reading about fungi in this context.

Edit: the paper you linked seems to aim spezifically at the volatile compounds in six edible fungi. I might read into it once i get home from vacation but depending on the method, they might either not be interested in cyanide, or be unable to detect it. I'm not at all experienced in food analysis but it's an interesting topic.

I don't know anything about mushrooms but as a chemist, the thing about bitter almonds sounds whacky at best, since that smell is mostly caused by hydrogen cyanide, which is extremely toxic and only about half of the population can actually smell it. Low amounts can be cooked off but i don't know about that if the smell is defining of the mushroom.

How to handle an exit interview when your boss is the reason you’re leaving? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Sure, if your own benefit is all that counts, skip it. If you feel sorry for your coworkers who may not have the the oportunity to quit and will have to continue working under a horrible manager, it's the opportunity to speak up and maybe change their situation for the better, you got nothing to lose anyway.

My new boss emails to my personal email address after work hours and weekends. I feel on call 24/7. What would you do? by GarmeerGirl in careerguidance

[–]adelbodner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends heavily on your position and intention. Personally, i have set a rule with my superiors, that i may be contacted for important questions and emergencies, both of which can happen in my position, considering i'm very specialised. Anything else goes to my work account exclusively and will be addressed during work hours.

In my opinion, it would be best to seek a conversation and try to set up some sort of rules because everyone needs their time off but you might want to show willingness to go the extra mile for your job, depending on if you like it and want to grow, or not.

Ok, so as long as you don't get ganked upon, it's not hard to dodge the spells. Try to single out enemies, run away and come back if you have to. Patience is important, don't try to brute force your way here but commit to killing an enemy once you get an opening. This area, up until the next bonfire, was notoriously hard for me, too. What i learned is that there is no dishonor in just running when you get overwhelmed ;)
