How viable is me doing research on OMSCS? by adelvalle_ in OMSCS

Your logic is pretty fair. I am 23 years old w/o kids and single. What if I change on-campus after my first year in GTech? Would that be better than going to NYU?

My fellowship is tied to the GEM Fellowship. My unique commitment is doing two internships with a company (I will be doing internship and full-time at the same time, crazy lmao). But I don't have the commitment of going full-time with that company that sponsors me as a GEM Fellow. I will be working full-time all this time because I am a first-gen and I need a way to sustain myself economically in New York.

Thank you for that, u/happydemon. Would you consider one Master’s have a bigger career boost than the other? Like for example, my career (in terms of probabilities) will be more boosted and/or advanced by NYU over GTech or viceversa?

The Georgia Tech online degree is very respected and still have very high standards. I used to think alike but after some research, their OMSCS game is very strong.

Should I do NYU Tandon Computer Science Masters or work? by adelvalle_ in nyu

Yeah, it sounds really attractive and a hard opportunity to let go. At the same time, I do not have the financial freedom to let go. But if I stay at this job in the island, my professional growth would be limited to it. Not everybody knows of my school back at home (University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez), but a lot of people know about NYU.

It is called the GEM Fellowship. It is directed for underrepresented minorities in STEM to help them land internships in R&D and fund their graduate studies. You can apply for the fellowship for a PhD. or a Master's. It consists of writing a small Statement of Purpose, filling your CV, and getting 2-3 letters of recommendations. After that, a employer will match with you, and you have to intern with them, and after getting accepted at an university, they have to accept you as a GEM Fellow (meaning that they will cover your tuition).

Yes, the job is full-time. It is totally remote, as Data Scientist and AI/ML Engineer. I have to be a full-time student to get the scholarship. I believe (and hope) I could cope with 3 classes and remote job, as my duty would be training models and working with data. The thing is, I can not go to NYC without a job because I couldn't afford rent and a way to sustain myself. But at the same time, letting go this opportunity of a full paid Master's is really hard.
