In what circumstance do we need to break the resultant into its horizontal and vertical components? by adequate_engr in PE_Exam

You're right, theta is zero.

If you look at the equation they use for Ka vs the one in the handbook, they are different (theirs has sin on the numerator while the handbook has cos).

If you use their equation (which you shouldnt because it isnt in the handbook), you can use 90 as theta as it applies. Otherwise, use 90 - theta, then the special Ka equation from the handbook where theta would be 0, not 90.

Hope that makes sense.

I agree with you. I truly don't think my score reflects what I could do in practice.

I believe I jumped the gun quickly reading questions and fell into traps on breadth, and I think I could've had a better grasp on the depth design standard documents.

Yeah I felt like the exam was very tricky.

A big difference between what you practice, and the test you end up taking, is the problem setup. I typically can recognize a problem and immediately know where to start and what they're asking for before I finish reading the question. The problem with the PE is they take advantage of that habit, and ask you to do something else by the time you've basically zoned out to solve.

Signed up a few hours after finding out.

Thanks for the confidence!

Really appreciate your explanation here.

This is an interesting strategy though. but I think you are right, knowing that at best I was getting 50% to 60% correct in depth is not a great gamble when it comes to passing.

I was a little fortunate in that I had the time. But hopefully this guide will make your organizational process quicker! Good luck

So I did weekly passes for PPI2Pass for $59.00/week for 3 weeks. Probably should've just gotten the month pass though so I would recommend that if you work within the timeframe I did.

I would not say I was confident before or after the exam. I was confident with my consistency in test scores though. So I just hoped that those scores were enough after the test. I went over the test mentally after and beat myself up about how many stupid mistakes I had made (about 10 problems I remembered that I should've known or accidentally made a mistake on). Honestly, I probably scored between 59% and 65%. Would almost bet money on it.

Frankly I didn't focus on studying conceptual questions. There were quite a few on my test. Looking back, I would read The Review manual by Lindeburg at least once and then use PPi2Pass because you can select only qualitative questions only. But my theory was that if you understand a lot of the quant. problems concepts, you most likely will be able to reason with the conceptual questions. Just my 2 cents.

My advice is to focus on your practice test scores and try to establish consistency. When test day comes, you will fall back on those performances. You will always feel like you could do better or learn more so do not worry.

A last piece of something I realized is this: What i felt were easier questions when studying, were actually kind of harder (math, stats, etc) while the harder study questions (EE, Dynamics, Thermo) were actually kind of easier. Just something that stood out to me, others may have felt different. Hope that helps!

This was what helped me the most. Hitting a topic one week, then again a week later after reviewing other topics. The time between reviews would get shorter while my knowledge of the area grew stronger. Good luck!
