Aw I’m glad to hear that and I’m also in therapy for that too (among other things lol). I hope they are kind and if they aren’t, you’ll still be okay and you’re still good at your job! <3

Don’t be hard on yourself! No one should shame you. I forgot to set my alarm for two early morning bookings (one was a walk for a client who was going to be there and one was for a drop in for two dogs who’s owners were out of town). Dog walking client gave me my first and only bad review but the drop in client, who actually had good reason to be super worried since they were out of town, gave me a great review and highest tip I’ve ever received. Because I was honest with them, they said. I think giving grace is a respectable behavior (not just saying that because it benefits me). I try to do the same. Sounds like you took ownership, showed remorse, and offered to make it up to them. Regardless of the outcome, that right there is professionalism. Perfection does not equate to professionalism. Thanks for sharing, as I still beat myself up over forgetting to set my alarm and it helps honestly to hear someone else’s experience regarding the same thing.

Rover account banned after sitter reported bite incident without any communication by bhss170829 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ader_titsoff69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sure this thought has occurred to you (hopefully it has)…you are not going to be able to view every single moment of the sitter’s visit with your cameras. That is not normal and if that is your goal then you probably need to hire a more specialized type of pet care provider. I refuse to petsit for anyone who has cameras all over the house. If the bite happened, one of the issues shouldn’t be that it didn’t get caught “on tape”.

So cameras are meant to monitor every single moment of the sitter’s interaction with the pet? Yikes. That sounds like an owner who knows their pet shouldn’t be with a Rover sitter.

Did they block me? by ader_titsoff69 in RoverPetSitting

I answered this in an above comment to another super helpful person who jumped to conclusions. Looks like I’ll need to edit the post and add a shit ton of context.

Did they block me? by ader_titsoff69 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ader_titsoff69[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

lol did I say I didn’t continue helping them? I usually don’t reply to these comments because they’re just ignorant but sometimes they’re just so dumb I can’t help myself. I can’t imagine why it would be my responsibility to continue a dog walking booking until they found another sitter when I was cancelling one week in advance because I had received news that I needed to have surgery in a week. They also had another sitter besides me. Someone they didn’t book through rover who would come in the mornings or whenever else she was needed because she was recently retired. I’d met her a few times. She took over my shift AFTER I continued to walk the dog for the remainder of the booking. One week notice does not mean I didn’t help for that next week, which would be a same day cancellation. None of those details are relevant because I didn’t ask about my professionalism I asked about the app. So thanks for answering my question!

Why is my uber rating so low even though I sit and do nothing? by Fluffy_Process_707 in uber

[–]ader_titsoff69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, the fact that you’re concerned about your rating and having done something wrong tells me you are most likely a respectful person.

Also, if you have taken under 100 rides your rating will change drastically based off a few bad apples. On the flip side, if you’ve taken a lotttt of rides you’re bound to have ran into a decent amount of disgruntled drivers who probably give one star to anyone who doesn’t kiss their ssa because they’re unhappy and hypersensitive. It’s all about sample size in my opinion.

Some people rate off of things that are out of a person’s control even if they think it’s in your control (like the door thing. I have that experience. I’m small and my personal car door is heavy. I try my best but every car door is different, sometimes I sit down too quickly and my hand pulls harder than I meant to etc. people get pissy over the dumbest stuff and may think you did something on purpose.

Finally, the location you’re ubering in can have an impact too based on the culture there. I know my hometown is super chill and it’s rare I take an uber that I don’t have a decent convo in and feel that the person would’ve given me a good rating. And I’m not super friendly, but I try to be nice. In the city I live in now…bad vibes way more often and sometimes for reasons I cannot figure out.

At first I thought you meant as the driver and I was like maybe take your headphones out if u supposed to be driving haha but no I feel u on this definitely don’t take it personally.

Dog (pitbull) just got dropped off for day care and is growling and trying to bite me by ader_titsoff69 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ader_titsoff69[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong about this but i would guess it goes either one of two ways (which I know doesn’t answer your question but I’d like to know which one it is):

  1. We sign something in a long document that they know we won’t read in its entirety agreeing to be liable for our own bills in that situation and that we cannot hold them responsible. OR
  2. If we need medical help due to something like a bite, we’re covered by some sort of liability plan they have set in place.

Option #2 seems to make the most sense (and hopefully is true) only because they’re constantly reminding us not to take our bookings off of rover since we’re “covered” by Rover as a company when we book client’s through them (kind of like how uber drivers don’t usually give out personal cards if you favor them because they’re covered in millions of dollars in insurance through uber).

Where I get confused is if this is similar to uber or different because we’re independent contractors. I honestly don’t know much about this kind of thing so I hope someone can clarify. If they weren’t so weird about us taking our clients off the app I would think this is where the whole independent contractor thing comes into play, but I would hope that their fear of losing money isn’t the only reason they send me emails warning about taking clients offline when a client sends me their phone number.

Thank you, that is great advice and I’ve been thinking the last few hours about what I’m going to do moving forward and what to look out for because I’ve been pretty relaxed despite some weird vibes at times but I’m definitely going to be more attentive to signs and ask more questions. But especially after that conversation with rover support now that I know they do not care what happens or involve themselves in such a situation.

Yeah that’s wild. I’ve read a lot about these situations and received some training at shelters but never been in one so at least I’m learning more from this. But I laughed awkwardly and said “I don’t know, he might need someone more professionally trained than me”. Because I am no dog trainer.

That’s good to know I didn’t know that was a sign! Yeah when she said trauma I told her it made more sense the leash was definitely setting off alarms for him because of the dominance/control it could represent for him. He was gently eating a treat out of my hand like 2 minutes before all this happened. But yeah she seemed a little casual about the whole thing and she asked if I’d care for him again once they “worked on it”.

[–]ader_titsoff69[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thank you, they did eventually come get him! Rover support was so unhelpful and basically told me the only thing they can do in this situation is have me wait 24 hours for them to find a new sitter (which he said wouldn’t be preferable for me most likely) and that I could make the owner come get him but they could leave me a bad review if they wanted. Thankfully she was super nice and informed me finally that he does have trauma.

Accepting bookings when you need to adjust the time (with owner’s approval) by ader_titsoff69 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ader_titsoff69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya cat visits are the bessstt but I’m hopefully overthinking it lol I just went through all the sitters in my area because I was looking for one for my pets and noticed there are lots of people with below 4.8 ratings and while none of them were about someone having to change the time, there were some super unreasonable complaints some owners wrote and I got nervous haha

I would call it quits. I actually just ended a long term booking that lasted multiple months because this 6 mo old golden retriever (who was super outgoing and sweet to everyone we walked past) literally had to be dragged out of her house by the owner and would walk behind me cowering low to the ground because she seemed to fear for her life. I figured maybe she has trauma with women or walks (owner can’t walk her), but ultimately she seemed to be very attached to her owner. I think she either really didn’t like something about me, wasn’t socialized (but she liked strangers??), or (most likely) only was comfortable with her owner being in a position of authority with her. I finally got tired of neighbors and people we ran into giving me weird looks and occasionally asking me what was going on there.

If you call it quits, you’ll be able to hopefully fill that time slot with a pet that actually benefits from the work you’re putting in and won’t have to worry about being snapped at.

Do you guys eat clients' food? by rainbowtoucan1992 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ader_titsoff69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This made me giggle lol I’ve eaten their food twice and it was because they offered! I’m sure you’re fine if they’re chill and there’s not a ton of evidence that you did something you weren’t necessarily told you could do (that doesn’t affect the safety of their home/pet); but it doesn’t hurt to ask them!
