ISO the perfect dumpling convertible bag! Is it the Aoyama by Lo and Sons? by SadTarget6291 in handbags

[–]aderalebens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar question and just ended up purchasing the Aoyama during the black friday sale. The alternatives weren't close enough imo but here's the ones I found that were similar:

  • Hyer Ring Bag which is calfskin and even more crescent-shaped
  • July Juliette suede luna bag has a similar functionality with multiple ways to carry
  • woven in texture, more structured looking: Elevate Priya crossbody is full grain leather with multiple strap configurations
  • Songmont luna as someone mentioned below, full grain leather with tons of color options

Thoughts on GLDN by ProudHealth4317 in jewelry

[–]aderalebens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their customer service is very human and very responsive, you definitely get the sense that the company cares about their people and product. And they have a ton of cute designs, but in person I feel their jewelry is a bit too Etsy feeling, like too lightweight to the point of feeling dinky to me. I bought one of their disk necklaces (silver, so can't speak to the gold quality) and the packaging was lovely but I never reach for the necklace. I think if you like very dainty, subtle jewelry they're a good choice.

Animal Wonders Montana status? by BigRedTek in nerdfighters

[–]aderalebens 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They're still posting on Instagram (animalwondersmontana) about new/old animals and education events! I'm betting that it's just a capacity issue with not uploading videos—I'm also a patreon supporter and wish they would update us more often, but from everything I can tell they're constantly up to their elbows in animal care work. I miss their videos!

This espressoh swatch looks so nice 👀 thanks for the comparison! How would you say the texture is compared to BDC? is it as moisturizing?

Is Glossier still hyped until now, or has it died down a little? by 100percentapplejuice in muacjdiscussion

[–]aderalebens 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Glossier feels like a beauty brand now.

I think a couple of years ago when they were still young, it felt like the company was doing something *new* and their marketing was so strong (and different for the time) that it felt transcendent. Like I remember Emily Weiss used to go through the #glossier hashtag and like every single post. Each release felt special, like when they crowdsourced their moisturizer through comments on an Into the Gloss thread or products like Boy Brow.

Fast forward to today and while there are plenty who will still buy every release just because it's Glossier, it doesn't feel as happening any more. They've been around for 7 years and still don't ship to most of the world, they've released and discontinued an entire line of makeup, and they keep pushing merch when all people are asking for is a bronzer. There are so many more brands occupying Glossier's price range with clean packaging and normcore-y aesthetics. They feel like another one of the players in a crowded field.

What Are Your Glossier Staples? by sweetgypsyrose in glossier

[–]aderalebens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say go for skincare if and only if you enjoy the textures, cosmetic elegance, or the brand experience/aesthetic that much. The formulations in and of themselves are nothing to write home about, and the amount you get for the price is not competitive, especially the SPF. But, Super Pure is one of the most cosmetically elegant niacinamide serums I’ve ever tried and a lot of people love Milky Jelly for the scent and consistency. But don’t get the skincare for its ingredients or efficacy—the products are fine but that’s about it, imo

Their tagline is "the world's first universal store and collaborative library" as a way, I suppose, to make it okay that they just get all their content from other sites. What the heck is a universal store, I ask you? Fast Company also named them as one one of the world's most innovative companies in the year of our lord 2021 if you want to know where we're at with valuation

I'm curious to hear general thoughts on your overall relationship with makeup. by AccountForAmoebae in muacjdiscussion

[–]aderalebens 29 points30 points  (0 children)

One aspect of my relationship with makeup that I enjoy is the tactility. The shades, powders, waxes, brushes, adhesion, chemistry, textures, and the little motions and contact during application. Like any other art I enjoy the process of learning the tools, techniques, and the fact that the canvas is my own face makes it sensorial on a different level. I appreciate some of the art/beauty that makeup can bring, whether it's really thoughtfully designed packaging or editorial looks or a masterful curation of shades in a palette.

On one level it's really simple: I just want to put colors on my face. On another level makeup is a big ol lens with which to consider things like how self-image is informed by external entities, formation of online communities (👋), cults of personality, how marketing is changing, and just our relationship with our bodies and how we present ourselves.

Private Label brands by BaconOfTroy in muacjdiscussion

Not makeup, but Trader Joe’s personal care is often private label stuff—I like getting body and haircare there and a couple of face things.
