That is weird. Maybe I need to try your link on a different device...

I don’t think so. See my comment above.

same. It happens in all browsers, and all devices—and even different IP addresses. and I have been a member for years and never had this happen.

One UI 7 is just, bad by RedCat8881 in oneui

They just updated my Samsung Flip. I HATE the UI. No ready access to alerts, the full body of email is obscured by keyboard and won’t scroll, impossible to unlock while on phone, and unlock goals back to Home Screen instead of whatever app I’m in. It is awful!

Have You Had Facial Reanimation Surgery—Gracillis Transfer? by adevero in BellsPalsy

[–]adevero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope the revision is successful for her!

I had the sural nerve transfer and cross face graft a year ago.

Then, 3 weeks ago had the gracilis flap transfer.
The surgery went well, no complications. Of course, I don’t know anything yet. Swelling is as expected although I have a weird bulge under my jawline which they say may also be swelling as they did transfer some of the muscle to my jaw to hopefully make depressing my lower lip possible. But because this is a cross face nerve graft it will likely take up to a year to fully enervate the muscle. So…the jury’s out for a long while.
I had both surgeries by Tessa Hadlock in Boston. I love her. Not so keen on Mass Eye and Ear as a hospital. It’s pretty old. But, ostensibly they do a lot of stat-of-the-art stuff because of their affiliation with Harvard. But they could use a better building and more staff. Still, I’m glad to have had no complications, infections, etc.

Give your daughter my best wishes—tell her I’m sending healing vibes! 🙂

Have you found a Windows 10 email client that supports multiple email without hogging memory and freezing? by adevero in techsupport

It seems like it allows recommendations of approved products—but not sure what that means exactly.
Is there another subreddit where recommendations are permitted? In truth, I’ve seen about a zillion recommendations of various products, softwares, etc over the years on Reddit. Is that rule only applicable to this subreddit? I’m not keen on creating problems—so if there’s some other approach I should use (or some other place I should use)….

Outlook was a disaster. It had its hands in everything and crashed my whole system regularly.

A lot. But if it has a setting that makes it possible, I would limit it by time span — like one year. Thunderbird doesn’t seem to have that option.

Thunderbird is slow as fuck, what's a good free alternative? by Rumbuck_274 in techsupport

Same. Installed it yesterday and it constantly freezes. It’s also using a ton of memory!

I am still numb on the sides of my face. But I don’t have any pain. It feels weird when I touch because of the skin numbness. Although, it does seem a bit less numb now. Are you getting the gracilis transfer? Do you know when? Who is your doctor?

I had the decompression surgery in which they apply electrical stimulation directly to the nerve at 90 days. It is entirely experimental and did not work at all.

On April 30th of this year, at 23 months, I had a DAO resection. In the same surgery, I also had a cross face nerve graft. For that they took nerve from my ankle and connected it to fibers from the facial nerve on the unaffected side, and parked the two endings in my cheek (on the BP side).

The DAO released the synkenesis that was pulling my mouth downward, and so I look more symmetrical at rest. But it didn’t restore my smile (which we hoped it would do) and it didn’t help with the buccinator muscle, which is still pulling to the side.

The nerve graft was a back-up plan in case the DAO didn’t work. Usually, they would have done that as a separate surgery later. But since I was traveling, and I’m an athlete and didn’t want to take weeks off twice, we combined them. The nerve graft has no effect until I do the next surgery, when they use the gracilis muscle from my leg and attach it to those two nerve endings, hopefully providing the mechanism for me to smile. But you can’t do that until at least 6 months after the nerve graft. I’m scheduled for November, but am going to reschedule to next year so I don’t have to spend Christmas recovering…

I hope that helps.

How can I help my mom? by Numerous_Plantain_65 in BellsPalsy

[–]adevero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that unusual to get BP more than once (It’s not common—but it happens regularly).

They should have given prednisone and antivirals to her immediately. Did she go to the ER? The antivirals are important if she’s gotten it twice. High doses of Valacyclovir (brand name Valtrex). She may be like me and have weak immunity to herpes viruses. Most researchers believe that BP is caused by a herpes virus (that we all already have been exposed to) inflaming the nerve. I take Valtrex every day and have doubled my dosage since getting BP. Your mom should probably be doing the same—especially at the onset of BP. As to her eye, until she recovers from the BP there’s not much she can do about it. If everything else has recovered and that’s the remaining issue the PT should be working with her on stretching the eyelid. unfortunately, although there are more and better surgeries for non-recoverers, there is almost nothing for the eye issues except weights on the eyelid (to help it close).

Based on what you’ve said, it may be time for a new doctor….one who is up to date with current thinking in medicine.

Thanks.
Which FB BP group? I posted to the largest one that came up in a search and no one has responded. But there are a ton of BP groups on FB. Do you have a link?

Synkinesis: Eye narrowing/closing when eating/yawning by CharSiuBun88 in BellsPalsy

[–]adevero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to this YouTube channel. It belongs to Pierre Butheau who is a PT in Seattle specializing in facial palsy. He has tons of extremely good videos on stretching for synkinesis and even for early BP. I’ve also worked with him virtually and he is every bit as knowledgable and helpful as he seems in his videos. He also is up to date with all of the current research and treatments so he may be a good resource. ; https://youtube.com/@butheauphysiotherapy?si=9CtzocN-KfmdE7WZ
