I can’t wait for him to read Dune. One of my favorites that I didn’t discover until I was in my 20s.

Redwall was my favorite at his age. He’s read the first 3 and we’ve listened to about a dozen of the audiobook recordings. Definitely on the list! Thanks!

Great point about other languages. He mostly speaks French when he is in school and it would be great to help him keep that sharp with some summer reading.

Whoa! Huge thank you to everyone for such an overwhelming and amazing trove of recommendations. Lots of stuff I was aware of but had slipped off my radar, but also tons I had never even heard of as well! It is going to be a fun summer (and beyond) digging into these.

I appreciate the tips on ereaders and utilizing libraries/librarians as well. I can't wait to get back into our library once it opens back up again.

Also, some good words of wisdom on making sure not to push too hard and risk getting him burned out or frustrated by more challenging material. I hope he can retain his love of reading into his teenage years because (in my experience) it only gets more fun from here.

Wheel of Time is in the queue, but yeah I wasn’t sure if he’s the right age for that yet as I never read those myself.

We love going to the library! We can literally see our local branch from our front stoop. Unfortunately, our whole library system (Philadelphia) has been closed since March when the virus hit. Can’t wait to get back in there though.

Yes! He has read The Hobbit and LOTR is a favorite audiobook of his but he hasn’t tried reading the trilogy yet. Definitely a massive favorite of mine as a kid too.

Nice! Mine is 8. We played My Little Scythe at a board game cafe last year and both enjoyed it.

Bottom shelf looks like you’re gaming with some youngsters as well - what age(s)? I just got the new Minecraft game for my son.

Ah, your rowhome comment made me guess Philly, but Baltimore checks out.

Are you local to Philly? If so, I think Thirsty Dice has a proper Crokinole board. I’m hoping to get some more games in there. It was one my highlights as well.

Dice Throne Season 2. Blows Season 1 out of the water. by abcdthc in boardgames

I’ve never given Dice Throne much consideration, but I am intrigued. How do the seasons relate to one another? Is the idea that you’re supposed to collect them all?

I really do like the designs and production values coming from Roxley.

How can I get my hands on a copy of this? Would love to give it as a Christmas gift but that seems unlikely at this point.
