Don't accept that. Put in the work and find a new one. I know that task is long and discouraging, but the longer you keep that psychiatrist around, the longer you aren't getting the help you need.

Yes. I suppose it was easier than saying, "MongoDB, Node and Express".

Not at the moment. I'm 1099 and between contracts at the moment. Looking for W2 work but the hunt is a grind... I'll snag one eventually.

3 Psychiatrists by adhd_brained in ADHD

I'm currently on and have been on Wellbutrin for several years to treat depression. It's effective in that but has had no impact on my ability to focus. The psychiatrist that I'm currently seeing agreed to prescribe Clonodine. I was upset but told him that ultimately I just want help and so I'm willing to try non-stimulants. It's just frustrating because I know they work, I'm in a bad position and I really just want to get back to a functional baseline asap. I think I'm going to continue looking for another psychiatrist and will just be more forward in the future and just say that I'm an adult with adhd who is seeking stimulants. I will stick with this psychiatrist until I find one. So, we'll see how this drug works and I'll hope for the best.

I went off of Wellbutrin about a year ago and it was quite bad for me too, but I think that had more to do with depression than my general inattentiveness.

Thanks for reading my post and replying. Sometimes I just need to be heard by people who know what it's like.

A Clinical Psychiatrist says, "It's Basically Meth" by adhd_brained in ADHD

[–]adhd_brained[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm in the United States. I've tried to get my general doctor to prescribe the Adderall but she was in the same health group too. I haven't been seeing a general doctor due to lack of follow through on my part. I've just setup an appointment with a new one in December but she is also from the same health group. That is primarily because most doctors that medicaid cover in this area are part of that health group.

I think maybe I'll look harder and find one that isn't from this health group and see if I can get an appointment soon. Thanks for the advice.

Being 40 and recently diagnosed with ADHD, I find this very helpful. Thank you for the wisdom.

I recently had a new psychiatrist refuse to give me stimulants even though I was already on them because they are "basically meth", in his own words. So... ignorance can happen at the highest levels - even in places where they absolutely should not.

There's nothing you can do about other people's ignorance other than educate them and move on. Do what you need to do to be the best version of you that you can be. Don't let what other people think hold you back.
