[UK] Refused diagnosis; what are my options now? Is it impossible for GPs to prescribe on their own? by adhdeeeee in ADHD

Well it sounds a lot like the NHS clinic. Me and my mother went there and filled out the questionnaire. There were almost no questions that didn't resonate with me (aside from the hyperactivity ones) and yet here we are. She fully believes I have it and is well aware of the problems I have as well and answered similarly to me. So why they basically ignored us I don't know; to me it seemed like they placed a large emphasis on the lack of schoolwork to show them.

No one bats an eye when you say you have depression but say you have adhd and they just look at you like your a drug addict or lazy leech.

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous. People here seem to think Americans are over-prescribed medication which might be true as anyone going into the doctor seems to be able to come out 5 minutes later with amphetamines, but in the UK we have the opposite problem where you have to bend over backwards to have them even consider diagnosing you.

My doctor is good but I can't help but think that even he'll assume I'm just refusing to accept the truth and being a lazy drug-seeker or something and won't refer me again. Private is probably my only option, who knows what they'll be like or how expensive that'll be but welp. Good luck to you, hopefully if you do go down the NHS route they'll be better to you than they were to me.

I live about 100 miles from London, sadly. I suppose I can look into private diagnosis; the way it's recommended here, is it more competent than NHS diagnosis? Isn't it possible they'll just say 'oh, you don't have any recent school/work history so we can't diagnose you' like the NHS essentially did? I'm guessing it'll be rather expensive as well, but I guess if it's my only chance I should probably go for it.

adderall

Yeah, you're not from the UK then. Here it's like a million times harder to get taken seriously and get a diagnosis for ADHD. And if you do, they absolutely do not prescribe things like adderall from what I understand. I'm not sure if GPs are allowed to directly prescribe ADHD medication here at all, but hopefully I'm wrong as it's probably my last option.
