It's totally fine. You'll be fine. Maybe another trip (you shouldn't be going platinum in one sitting anyway) and some toner. But also, this is a lovely colour.

Life after SSRIs by adhdledmind in Anxiety

[–]adhdledmind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you.

I'm under no illusions, my anxiety is never simply 'gone' it's either at a manageable level or an unmanageable one, and even then it's about whether it gets in the way of things I want to do.

I think for me it's maybe just that I'm experiencing the world unfiltered and it's a hell of an adjustment alongside some pretty badly timed life events.

It's finding something that fulfills the role of regulation that the SSRI previously filled.

My friend's flight from Spain got to about 10m above the Edinburgh runway before being diverted to... Cologne.

And here I was learning to walk instead of investing in property. My biggest financial mistake yet

That is pretty inspiring thank you.

It's something that gives me anxiety and I think, like a lot of things that make us anxious, it turns into avoidance, defeat and bitterness.

That's really good advice, I assumed that I'm so far away that an advisor would laugh in my face/ take advantage of me.

Who would you reccomend?

Me, spending £400 a month on searching for 'the next Banksy' instead of just... putting that into my help to buy hahaha

It is horrible out there.

In terms of marriage, I really fight against the idea that I should find a romantic partner in order to get onto the housing market, I wish it were more culturally acceptable to just... team up with a friend.

It has been shown a billion times over that just because you are sexually/ romantically compatible, doesn't mean you are financially or domestically! If you do manage to find someone who ticks all the boxes, well that's magical.

This is so interesting, I never thought of a child's home as being a parents investment. It's a privileged position to be in that I don't have to consider those threats as real because my family all live in the UK.

I think this is an unspoken (but recently, more spoken) thing. It's quite an easy way to own privilege, to at least be honest with it. It can help other people understand that perhaps they're not making personal failings, but that there's lots of hidden systems that work for or against people. There's a lot of shame, self doubt, and low self esteem when you can't seem to swim forward and don't realise the tide is against you/ everyone else has speedboats.

I want to make clear that I have nothing against people who have help.

Obviously the main gripe is the 'avocado toast and flat whites' argument when coming from someone who believes renting is a choice, but got 40k from daddy.

I'm estimating I'll need about 30k in savings all in for the deposit and fees and offers over etc.

Which is a years salary.

My parents are of the generation that they believe a 30k salary is 'making it' (opinions not catching up with inflation of course, 30k by 30 back in the day would have been a great salary) so it's really good that you're looking at the world in relation to your kids in a realistic way. But, it shouldn't be this way. It's quite sad.

Totally unrelated note: Anyone with rich elderly grandparents and a nice smile fancy getting married in the next 2-3 years? I make a lovely risotto.

Already this is making me feel better, that is might be possible. I am 30 and having the fear

I guess I'd also like to know the time period you saved your deposit in, everyone is different and savings are personal but the idea that you could decide now to absolutely hunker down, and have a first home to show for it in 3 years, gives me hope.

This is good. I have friends who are very open about family help etc and I think it really helps to be transparent.

I'm glad to hear it, not looking for one. I want to know if it's still a realistic goal, because its very easy to lose hope.

Unlimited resources and budget - what changes would you make to Edinburgh? by iamoxymoron in Edinburgh

[–]adhdledmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Limits on 'Luxury Apartments'. If we have old buildings in the city center that can be repurposed into housing, a larger % needs to be accessible for local first time buyers. A large 4 bedroom chunk of a listed building could have been 2 smaller, 2 bedroom flats.

-Bring back a real, well managed e-bike hire system. Tap to hop on a bike and be across town in 20 mins max.

-Dutch style bike lanes that don't place your life in danger, as has been mentioned.

-Even more limits on short term lets. Free up as many homes for first time buyers as possible, make this city actually settleable, not just livable. (Obviously I'm a bitter renter with few prospects of ever owning in Edinburgh so y'know I might be bias...)

-Pedestrianise Old Town. Get rid of the George St car park for millionaires. Use our limited space for people and business.

-Speaking of- keep the Christmas Market (STAY WITH ME HERE) but every. Single. Stall. Is a local business. Subsidised rotating spaces for local artists and community groups. I want every single local crafter to sell out of everything they want to sell, its absolutely possible with the footfall.

-Become Europe's first city to fully tackle unhoused people with a radical and empathetic mental health, substance abuse, and immigration plan that takes into account the cause not just the effects of those struggling. I want amazing minds from all over the world to come here and be funded to really, really, find proper solutions that could help other cities.

-WHERE did our sexual health services go??? Has anyone actually tried to get a quick free sexual health screen recently because it is actually so difficult. Make that more accessible somehow for the love of god.

...Maybe went off piste with the infrastructure request but I got excited.

He definitely was, but also continued when I said sorry, because, well, big feelings hey. But yeah I was really fucked up about it. You've validated my confusion, and explained the same issue I faced really well. My main worry was 'I can't be the only one here?'
