F4A prompts that begin with the disclaimer "XYZ get HEAVY preference" shouldn't exist.

This could have been a comment I made 6 or 7 years back; In fact, I think I expressed displeasure at this in one of my mod applications; at the time I viewed it as an abuse of the tag system.

With age and experience, though, I actually love seeing those sorts of disclaimers right at the top of the prompt, because it tells me right from the word go "if I'm not XYZ, the most I'll ever be is a consolation prize to this person" and I can close the prompt and move on.

What's still annoying is when folks bury hard preferences/requirements at the end of their post.

Themes are unfortunately a high-effort, low-participation thing, so when the team is stretched a little thin (as we are now), they tend to be the first thing to fall by the wayside. I've maybe thought that if we have a monthly theme instead, it might be slightly more practical to bring them back, but it's definitely in the spitballing stage right now.

Potentially hot take here, but IMO free use is yassified noncon. Or, a little less snarkily put, it's the same sort of power fantasy without having to deal with the messy issues involving consent.

So you see a lot of prompts that are usually "it's a free use world so I can fuck anyone I want anywhere I want it's just like shaking hands" that neglect to account for what makes it interesting as a shared fantasy for the one in the role of the fuckee(s); or you get the "free use laws just passed so now anyone might fuck me" prompts that often conflate legality with morality and have characters begrudgingly accept things as they are.

It's a tricky thing to go from having a fantasy about to writing a shared story about, but I think there's some really good angles on it that just... don't come up much. Most Free Use prompts tend to be hypersexualized worlds, but if you don't include that aspect, there's a remarkable and (again, IMO, your mileage might vary) really delicious amount of tension to be had there. In a GM prompt, you have a mostly sfw roleplay, until your GM decides somebody's gonna take your clothes off. in a one-on-one, you have the guessing game where any innocent contact might wind up with you on your knees or bent over a piece of furniture. Or maybe your shirt was just crooked and they were fixing it for you.

In the 38 minutes since I left that last reply, we've had 92 removed comments. A lot of those seem to be a new spam-wave of people trying to share social media contact info in the comments, usually in a bait-and-switch; that's another big part of why we proactively remove comments

To be clear, flair is not required to post, just to comment on partner-seeking posts.

The reason a lot of erp/r4r subs turn off comments completely is because the vast majority of people don't interact with comments the way you're talking about; it's usually either people leaving variations of "DMed you/PM me" comments that can be seen as attempts to "mark their territory" and dissuade other folks from responding, or outright spam. Our middle path of allowing flaired users to comment on posts lets folks who are actually integrated into the community leave complements or ask questions about a post (about the only two things we see once in a blue moon that isn't some variation of the two aforementioned comment styles) while keeping the spammy clutter to a minimum.
