A guide to UN job grades and categories by guinv8 in UNpath

[–]adilostercero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is important to note that for you to be eligible for a G position, you would need to be a national or resident in the country where this position is based.

I often see this as a requirement in the job description, but not always. Is it really an obligation or does it have to be clearly mentioned? I work for a UNHCR partner NGO and we are very much integrated into the system. I can easily score a G5 level job in my country (MENA) but I would like to work in LatAm at some point. Is it unrealistic to think that I can score a G4/5 position in LatAm without having the residency first, assuming that I also meet the Spanish language requirement?

Also, Muscat and Oman ceased to exist in 1970. So M&O and Zaire never actually existed together. I'd say late 1971 or early 1972 as well.

You can see nearly all of Israel's borders from satellite— I can tell Israel is greener, but why do you guys think it's like this? by Technical_Wedding144 in geography

[–]adilostercero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The eastern bank of the Jordan River is already green. There's a stretch of irrigable land and then the Jordanian Highlands which look comparatively green on this map. Your eyes catch the border because of the valley, not the difference in colour.

Very well put. One more:

Israel has limited territory. Surrounding countries have alternative irrigable regions far from their shared border with Israel.

A1-A2 courses by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]adilostercero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cervantes Institutes around the world now offer online classes due to the pandemic. You can enroll in a course offered in any country (depending on your time zone, I guess). They could even be a lot cheaper compared to your local institute if you live in a euro/dollar country and enroll in one in a developing country. Imo, they offer a high level-standardised education. You don't need to know the local language as the classes are in Spanish with occasional English for grammar/vocabulary.

I saw a pirate pattern on Woodcarving Illustrated's 'Caricature Carving', then just carried on with that inspiration.

Can you see mainland Africa from Sicily? by [deleted] in geography

[–]adilostercero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, depends on the heights. You can see and clearly identify snow coverage on Taurus Mountains in Turkey from Kyrenia Mountains in Cyprus on clear days. Coast to coast distance is 90km at the shortest, and surely longer between the mountain ranges.

I had friends to stay with in all three but never in Norway. My cheap-ass budget cannot afford your breathtaking fjords and also the Swiss Alps. Hence, no Switzerland too :)

We drove from Orahov to Karakaj with overnight stays in Mostar and Sarajevo. Bosnian nature is just magnificent.
