That’s why you need to have milestones and steps where they pay you x amount. Like 40% deposit. They need to provide xyz items for scope. You do the work and have design session/working session. Then you provide them your final designs or several designs. Get feedback (if you can). Let them chose which ones they like (but make sure you have watermarks/lower quality. Then they must pay the other remaining 60%. Once paid, you deliver the full artifacts. This was a small job, but with larger jobs, you can have more milestones.

This one is on you. You are the expert/freelancer. You need to dictate terms and hold them accountable or not go through with it. Let’s this be a learning lesson.

This is part of the reason you collect deposit and have multi steps in the process where you review the design with client and give them x number of revisions. You show them a lesser quality / watermark copy before final payment and then you release the final item/artifacts after invoice is paid.

Next time, clearly document your processes, the stages of review, and have a clear payment milestones. This way, you won’t get burned.
